The most ridiculous thing about this thread is that The Australian newspaper would make up this crap and people would run with it.

The Australian makes crap up all the time. Nothing unusual there.

I subscribed to it on a cheap deal a few years ago. When I rang up to cancel they asked me why. I had to politely tell them that their newspaper was crap.

Apart from that, the only time I really read it was to get AFL scores when I lived in Townsville in the mid 90's.

This is the 'ignorant hatemongering' thread, dont try and bring common sense into it.

                In regards to drugs?

Surely that would be pretty obvious...

You weren't being led to believe he was already in a rehab facility. You were told he was receiving treatment in an appropriate facilty.

Which, more than likely, if the system is like that which the Salvos use, is a detox facility. This doesn't mean he definitely had any drugs in his system, it is standard procedure before going into a rehab facility.

Yep, for quitters who have the guts to face up to a challenge.

Also we seem to hold athletes to different standard to other sections of society. Are politicians subject to random drug tests (even though some would benefit by the use of performance enhancers). Entertainers behave badly but we don't demand they be kicked out of their profession. It's all a bit hypocritical.
Serious question. If i was caught with illicit drugs tomorrow, would i go to jail? Because it almost feels like they aren't illegal anymore.

No. Dependnant of course on the quantity you have.

For the most part, if you have a small personal amount and the cops don't really want to bust you, they'll confiscate the drugs and send you on your way. Probably use them later themselves..

If they DO want to bust you, well they will. Even for a small quantity that is your own personal use. But the general result of that is a $200 fine and maybe a 6mth good behaviour bond... maybe. Dependant of course on your history.

However, once you get the "trafficable" quantities, whole new ball game. You will be prosecuted and the penalties go up significantly.....

... it's pretty much decriminalised in NSW now. Just like breaking and entering. A friend got busted at a dance party with an eccy and three joints. He went to court, got a $300 fine and a 12mth good behaviour bond.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
