      @@@@, @@@@, @@@@.....

This is a massive loss for us.

I was really looking fwd to seeing Kenelly, Mattner and the Eski all firing and tearing off the back line. Would of been awesome to see them all in full flight.

Hope that it's a minor one and 12 weeks and not an entire season.

        What a bugger.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

It is terrible news, but I am hoping for the best when scans are done...I can't believe that we can lose one of the only two people in the team who can kick even relatively accurately.
Maybe they should paint broader boundary lines down there in Tassie, as clearly most of the Swans couldn't see the line today as so many kicks went OOBOF. And thank goodness for Jude's 50m penalty, as hed have had no show from 20 out....
But all said and done, I thought the kids played really well today, but I'm still coming to grips with what the consequences may be for losing agifted player for a season, courtesy of a game that the club treats as almost meaningless...
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

I think a fit crouch can fit into that back half! He (when fully fit) has pace and agility so y not give him a go??

It certainly did not look good. At 3/4 time the Eski pulled the ice of his knee, a couple of blokes commisserated with him and he limped sadly off. Coming home tonight they gave him seat 1C (virtually the only max legroom seat on a Jetstar plane) He had crutches, but only seemed to be using them half the time. Nathan Gibbs said when I asked "don't worry, we'll get him back" About as illuminating as a blown light globe, but at least he didn't say - he's gone. Monty also seemed to pick up a knee injury, but didn't seem too serious.

Indeed - Jeff Kennet summed it up in his half time interview that he hated the NAB cup because of the possiblity of a major injury occurring prior to the start of the premiership season. If its in the normal season of play - Ok you take that as part of the deal, but this pre season rubbish is exactly that - rubbish.

can't believe it is being suggested that crouch can adequately replace Malceski 3 years ago perhaps but not now!

Huge loss but lets hope for the best with him that he might be able to sneak back if we get deep into the finals race or something. The NAB cup really pisses me off due to this exact thing- every season there are at least a couple if not a few major injuries that come out of it. If it was me I'd do away with it and add a couple of rounds to the regular season.

Bugger, just heard this morning. This is why they should get rid of this stupid comp and lengthen the season proper.

I understand the concept of not wanting to play in case of injury (NMWBloods' yearly rant of not wanting to play because of injury is immediately what I thought of when it happened) but in Malceski's case it wasn't a contact injury and was something that could happen anywhere; I'm certain that when he previously did his ACL it was at training.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

What would happen if it happened at an intra-club practice match, or even in a pre-season practice match (non pre-season cup)? Would you be saying go straight into Rd 1 without any match practice because of the risk of injury?

It's one of those unfortunate things that happens when a serious inury occurs before the H&A season starts, but the games that are played prior to Rd 1 are necessary.
