Roos was an idiot if he said what he did.
Unfortunately the second the official made the complaint the AFL had no choice but to investigate and I think it good that they do.
I hate that it is my club who's name is being dragged through the mud of course but seriously what a stupid lack of judgement by Roos. All the more reason why coaches should stay in their box.
Another good thing is it has everyone talking about tanking in the season proper - and if it gets the AFL thinking about the priority pick system etc - then good.

Not to show double standards, they should really investigate Carlton. Or are the Bluefaires their love child? Since they've invested a lot of money in recent years into the Blues, and that club is beyond suspicion?

How can a Knob Cup game, has the same significance to a Home and Away game, when half the clubs take the Knob Cup seriously?

            The AFL = Joke!!!

Its making all parties look pretty stupid - if Roos said it - then what a plonker he should have known better (we all know that AFL stewards and the like dont have a sense of humour), but now that Andy Pandy and his side kick Adrian Andypants are getting their y-fronts into a twist - makes it all the more trivial. Oh well at least the two big "A's" have a fan in Mike Sheehan - he worships them.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

More evidence that the fat controller is a man out of touch with his own competition and its supporters. Organised and considered are two words that I would not use to describe this clown. Imperious and high handed are two I would use.

                      Issues here.

                      1. As Caro and others have said - The AFL is demonstrating an audaciously breathtaking level of inconsistency, given all and sundry know what Carlton tanked last year IN THE SEASON PROPER. No investigation was carried out. Roos comments that Demetriou has a vendetta against him are given the appearance of having substance, but the inconstency of the AFL.

                      2. The inception of the pre-season competition was as a means for clubs to play an organised set of practice matches in preparation for the season proper. Somehow, in the rush for revenue, the AFL has evolved it into a full blooded competition (or so they would like to think). Although the rules clearly state that players and coaches must try to win ALL games, the reality is that smart clubs keep their eyes on the main prize and treat this competition for what it is - an opportunity to prepare. So Andy and Ando can shell out as much prize money as they want, it doesn't change a thing.

                      3. With the half backed half arsed plans announced for expansion (following the AFL's ill faited endevour to get North to relocate to a city with no ground), this is just plain stupid. These issues are better discussed behind closed doors, not in the media.

                      4. By allowing betting on NAB cup games, presumably for the revenue, the AFL has set itself up for this issue. It allowed betting knowing that clubs don't take the competition seriously.

                      5. By changing the rules - including 9 point goals and particularly the limited interchange rules, the AFL set this situation up. Having a serious tilt at the NAB cup would seriously impede the preparation for the season proper by not being able to practice set plays, game plans, and also incurring greater risk of injury. The AFL has practically invited clubs to opt out of the competition. Roos mistake was to state in public what other coaches had only intimated at.

Personally, I think Jason Akermanis is a complete knob (the guy who promotes playing AFL in Japan, where there are no suitable grounds). However, his suggestion to scrap the NAB cup is a good one. They should revert back to organised practice games in the hinterland and country areas. Forget the money for once and bring footy back to the people. Heaven forbid, the fat controller might even choose to exit his Toorak compound and make an appearance at a game in southern new south wales. Buy a pie and sit in his car on the boundary and watch a game. That I would like to see.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

They had a fight against North Melbourne last October who are fighters and lost. We are fighters as well, they've picked the wrong team, to pick a fight on.

As for Mike Sheahan's article what an idiot. Does he not think for one minute that the reason the Swans have made so many finals under Paul Roos is because he uses the NAB Cup as a pre-season practise. Caro was right on the mark.

I would suggest that if a poll was conducted with members/supporters of all clubs and they were asked if their club lost all NAB Cup and pre season matches and yet made the finals of the home and away season would they be happy with that or would they prefer to take the NAB Cup and pre season seriously but not make the finals of the home and away season the results would be as plain as the nose on your face.

Another point being the NAB Cup and pre season is the only chance our young guys have to compete against these type of players since the Canberra competition is just not up to it. Why don't the stupid AFL put their money where their mouths are and get the Reserves of all teams competing against each other again so as to provide a decent reserves competion for all teams.

Totally agree, we are at a distinct disadvantage given our reserves play in a micky mouse comp. If the AFL want a level playing field for all clubs (which they constantly harp on about when it suits) then there must be a reserves comp with all clubs involved.

One of the people testifying against Roos is an umpire who wants one of four permanent spots that are available this year.

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
