The Vesz was sensational tonight, the goals and general play were great especially the last one (bomb from well outside 50 straight through).

What impressed me most though was his team enthusiasm, it seems to me he is like an adrenalin jab to the heart for our setup, and really gets everyone going

Also when he picked up that crumb after Barry Hall had been tripled and did the sprint to the goal square/crowd lifter, he ran straight back to Barry and pulled him away from decking Merritt...looked kinda funny tiny boy trying to restrain wild African elephant.

Hes talented....hes a team man....and has the right amount of showmanship to bring people to the games.

He really has elite superstar written all over him.

I'm wondering if it was more a case of resting him for next week and then when ROK went down with the flu, Roos had no option but to bring him back. Yes even though he was named an emergency, etc.

He'd have to be up there for a rising star nomination this week. Birdy will miss out in favour of Vespa.

What a load of rubbish. Vez played the game.

Who is to say there was ever a plan that he wouldn't play?

I think that is a given. He was probably always going to play yesterday. Clubs like to throw up a "blind" at the selection table. We do it weekly.

I suggest they drop Ablett back to the 2's to give them some added pace in the midfied and quality delivery to the forwards.

The problem with that is I think Ablett is ineligible for the reserves finals.

Can only go by the team that was named.

I don't care too much about whether he was selected as a blind or not. I'm not too fussed about Rising Star even.

What I do care about is that we have recruited a 'footballer'. A young bloke kicks a goal from 50 plus off a step, tackles, takes a grab, looks to have pace, a bit of cheek, courageous, calms down BBBH, pushes away a burly defender who is baiting same,...just that little special something.

                          I am impressed.

His mate from the juniors Meredith is supposed to be a good footballer and a good kick looking forward to their work next year.

I always turn to the sports pages first, which record people's accomplishments. The front page has nothing but man's failures......Earl Warren

I loved it how excited vespa was whenever he kicked a goal.
No matter what was happening during the game he continued to chase and pressure his opponents into making mistakes.
He chased his butt off tonight and looked thoroughly spent at the end of it all. What more could you ask for.

I loved it when he came off late in the third quarter after kicking another goal to rapturous applause and a sort of standing ovation from the crowd.
He's the sort of player that will boost membership numbers.
He's the sort of player who woos new spectators to the game.

i'd rather he didn't get the nomination for rising star - he hasn't played enough games and if he's not nominated then he will eligible next year and will have a great chance of winning it then .....

bird should have recieved a nomination at some point - he's had a great year missing only one game and won't be eligible next year coz he's played too mnay games.....

Getting a nomination now won't affect his eligibility for next year. You can get nominated twice.

There are probably others who are more worthy this week in any case - players who've played a lot more games and who won't be eligible next year. Even though he almostly certainly won't, I'd prefer Bird to get one this week as recognition for doing what very few 18/19 yos achieve and playing almost every match, making a solid and improving contribution each outing.
