Maybe its just wishful thinking but he still seems a long way from being traded to me. Asking price is way too high and we will be hard to satisfy in terms of draft picks and top up players. I reckon our offer was spot on what he's worth. I'm still hopeful he's going to stay, call me deluded if you like....

Hawthorn seem like the frontrunners to get him. I would be satisfied with pick 16.

If a trade can't be done he will enter the pre season draft and put a price on his head that one of the Melbourne clubs will pay.

          Not pick 16 alone.

I agree with you - think there's still a good chance he'll stay at the club. I can't see O'Keefe being keen on Melbourne or one of the W.A teams so O'Keefe walking to the PSD looks unlikely.

Greg Swann from Carlton said that they can't do a deal, so that leaves Hawthorn at this stage. They've just won the flag - surely they'll have some salary cap issues.

FSN had a fairly lengthy phone interview with Pelchen yesterday evening. He confirmed that the Hawks had some interest in O'Keefe in the sense that they viewed him as a quality player and therefore one they'd certainly look at. But when asked if they were interested in him at a price tag of $600k pa, he was pretty firm in saying "no, not at that price".

I reckon this is far more about money than about returning home to Melbourne. That came too late in the piece and he (ROK) has been dithering too much for it to be the main driver. If no other club comes up with a financial offer that attracts him, there is still some chance he'll decide "better the devil he knows". Guess it depends how much the Swans want him, what the relationship is really like, and maybe if they'll help him to save face - if it comes to that - by offering a token top-up on the current deal. Or maybe turn it into a 4 year deal, which would be pretty low risk for him, of all players on the list.

Worst case for us is that the Blues (or Bombers) are prepared to offer him what he thinks he's worth financially and price him out of reach of the clubs below them in the PSD. Which realistically could happen.

Just on SEN it appears Hawthorn is "the" frontrunner for ROK and that a deal could be done sooner rather than later.

So we pickup 16 + player (probably Boyle).

May help us get Lovett. We are not interested in Lovett for Pick 12, rightly so. Essendon may baulk at Pick 30. We could do something like Lovett + pick 23 for Pick 16 + a 3rd rounder (46?).

We lose ROK + pick 46
We gain Boyle, Lovett and pick 23.

                  Gives us 3 picks in top 30 (12, 23, 30)

                  Thoughts?

Creative, but our second rounder for Lovett will be enough for SnDon. They may bluster about it, but by the end of the week 30 will be the best offer on the table and they will take 30 rather than de-list him and pay out the salary.

That would leave us with Boyle, Lovett and picks 12 and 16.

I would be extremely happy with that, a KP forward for now, speed for the midfield for now and two picks in the first round in a strong KP/ruckman draft.

anything more than a 2nd rounder is overpaying

remember we're talking about a guy who has been suspended twice by the club this year for turning up drunk/not turning up to training

                              he is a big risk

Why are we risking on a possible time bomb. I'd rather have Cousens in the PSD.
