Tadhg Kennelly to return to Ireland with a year left on his Swans contract

TADHG Kennelly is set to leave the Swans with a year remaining on his contract, returning to Ireland to play Gaelic football.

The attacking defender was contracted to play out the 2009 season but will not play this year after making the decision to return home.

Kennelly had always intimated he would return to Ireland to emualte his father's playing feats and spearhead Kerry's tilt for the All-Ireland Championship.

Rumours had been rife recently that Kennelly was going to cut short his time at the Swans but they had been vehemently denied.

The Swnas have called a press conference for 3.30pm (EDT).

"The Swans' fourth pick (No. 54 overall) in the 2005 pool still sees the half-back line as his best position.

We were weighing up maintaining our family membership this year (with a little boy who isn't as excited attending games as he used to be) and Tadhg, who is a family favourit, playing out his final year was pretty much the clincher in us keeping it.

I expect so, if that's the case I guess the club will just have to wear it. Hard to blame Tadhg really. Wish him all the best, he's still been one of the club's success stories of the last decade.

Dont think so. With fosdike also gone, that leaves 2 vacant spots on the list, how are these filled? Is it a matter of elevating 2 rookies?

Good luck to him. He is Irish and wants to go home. Has been a gun and we will miss him - as well as his speed, he mostly made smart decisions. Who will forget his run in 2005 GF when he "toed" the ball to himself?
