Right - just watcheed the full replay on Bigpond.
Shaw - was excellent. I confess to letting my hatred for his scum family get in the way of a fair appraisal of his worth to the team. He is doing what Kennelly did, but better. Let's face it, by the time Kennelly pulled the plug, he was pretty much shot. The thing we need to be careful of is teams tagging Shaw, as a lot of our clearances from defense are going through him.
Grundy. Really straightened us up when he moved to the forward line. He knows how to take a mark and although need fast is quick thinking and an excellent kick. Also has evasive qualities.
LRT - great game. I feel confident of a good outcome when LRT is in the vicinity. Ditto Bolton who pantsed Fev. I thought Betts had the better of Bevan in the second half.
McVeigh. BOG for mine. Kicked 3 goals when they mattered and shut down Judd when he threated to create havoc. A comment on Judd - his disposal really lets him down and it is also apparent that a lot of his freak ability at west coast was due to other players blocking for him. He is not getting anywhere near the help from his carlton 'team' mates. In general, Carlton come across as a very selfish team, and quite lazy too.
Jolly- he is so important to us and delivered yet again. White performed well in the back-up role too.
Other notables - Richards, Bird, Thornton a few nice things in his first game, Meredith has class and will get better when he finds more of the pill.
What amazes me is that Bird clocks up pretty impressive numbers with limited game time. He'd be clearing 30 quality possessions if he had the stamina to do it. Give it a few years. His side step is so much llike Harvey is uncanny.
On Moore - I thought he was good. He has a role to play and he is dong it well. He wlil never be a running player, but what he can do well is be the creative, small forward who can create opportunities with his strength and vision in close.
Finally, I think things clicked int he 2nd quarter when Goodes moved to the forward line. Created pressure and led to a cascade effect which bought Grundy and white into the game and opened things up.
