Not sure he played on McKinley for most of the night. He also took Butler and Cockie.

That might be right, I couldn't really pick who he was on (although I must admit I wasn't paying particular attention to it). I did think McKinley played well, but it might not have all been on Paul.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

He did do some good stuff through the game, though.
Defenders can't always be just judged on goals kicked by their direct opponent.

McKinleys first came directly as a result of a bad turnover from LRT on the wing. Backman can't be asked to stream downfield and provide run and then be held responsible when somebody turns it over and the ball gets kicked back over their head.

I think McKinley may also have been the guy who benefited from the 50m interchange shenanigans as well. Prepared to stand corrected however.

He played on McKinley for a while, but I only counted two of McKinley's goals kicked on Bevo. Bevo also had a short stint on LeCras while Bolton was needed elsewhere, he played in the middle a bit (but not much), and also spent a fair bit of time as a loose man in defence. It was the nature of the game, given LRT's injury and the fact that WC's tall forwardline stretched out backline from the start, that matchups were going to constantly shift, and they did.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

I'd say they can be judged by the number of goals kicked on them, but perhaps should not be judged on that alone (and as I've already said he may not have kicked all of them on Paul). Regardless of whether it is their fault or not, surely it's fair to say "gosh" when a defender's man kicks a few goals?

              I prefer a different 4 letter word

I prefer an eight (I think) letter word beginning with B and ending with D!

Paul can do some great stuff that other of our players just don't or just can't, like going back with the flight and taking a safe diving mark or backflip mark. He rarely gets dragged, the boys like him, the coaches like him, so he must be doing his job. Good enough for me. Maybe his problem is he has zilch show pony attributes. He still hasn't learned to talk on the ground (or off it for that matter) I will grant you. Far too reserved.

Maybe he should give Thommo a bell, leak a few flattering stories to the media and give the impression that indolence is brilliance. In the meantime the Bevo Appreciation Society will talk about the kid.
