I thought you were going to saw Ray and Tony
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

The way the AFL has changed the game, and the way teams like Geelong have countered the zone and flood, has given Shaw a new lease on life.

His main attribute is speed, so the best thing he can do is run (play on at all costs). Perfectly suited to todays game.

Much as Contested Ball-up footy prolonged Matthews career back in the 05/06 era. Man that bloke could take a tackle!

His kicking is better than at collingwood, but I'd be keeping the ball well away from him if we were 5 points up, 5 minutes to go.

Well, Kieren Jack wouldn't have been a particularly obvious choice either!!

Rhyce Shaw >>> Heath Shaw. Just stating the obvious.

Rhyce Shaw is bringing back the bounce | Herald Sun

                    Some amazing stats:

"Rhyce Shaw, come on down. The former Magpie has had a staggering impact on the club's running-bounce count, having 64 in eight matches.

The rest of Shaw's teammates have managed only 80 between them, underlining the amazing feat.

His total of 64 is 31 ahead of the league's next most regular bouncer, Adelaide's Nathan Bock.

The rebounding half-back has gained 4131m for the Swans this year, 658m more than next-best teammate Adam Goodes.

Last year he averaged 3.4 running bounces a game at Collingwood - a career high. As a Swan he is averaging eight.

He has helped the club to third in running bounces, behind Adelaide (216) and Collingwood (154).

North Melbourne has had only 83 running bounces in total, just 19 more than Shaw.

And despite visions of David Wojcinski carving up opposition teams with searching runs, Geelong has had only 92."

                      Is he overusing the ball?

                        I wouldn?t think it's overuse.
It would seem his timing of the bounce is reflecting the rhythm in his run.
I think more players should take up the short run bounce as it allows players to get out of trouble without having to worry about getting caught for travelling.

Imagine if basketballers had to bounce the ball every 3 metres.

I don't put much stock in the running bounces stat. Shaw seems to bounce it every 5 metres, and if that's what he does and it works for him good luck to him. It probably is rhythm, as pinkemu says.

The stat that counts in all that is the rugby-like "Metres Gained". That says ballmagnet and line breaker, and it's no doubt he's quickly become an important cog in our back 6, helping the parry and riposte.

It is certainly a change from the LRT, Bevan, Hall and Buchanan bashing that goes on in some of these threads. It will be interesting to see how the year pans out and whether this early season exuberance re: Shaw can be maintained. Clearly I have my doubts.
