2 of 23. He missed the maggot.

Players get suspended for breaches of the rules. Not compulsorarily retired by a bunch of ungrateful snipers (including his captain). How would you deal with Leigh Mathews? He has a criminal conviction for a brutal act of cowardice on a football field. They made him a Legend!
The game has changed since the 80s. Whether this is a good thing is another issue. The fact is that it has and Barry and every other player has to adjust. Barry showed in his first 6 seasons with the Swans that he was capable of this. But for some reason, it's clear that he can no longer control his actions. The club cannot ignore this.Comment

Deadset whinger, who probably didn't like Hall and Lockett when he played with them.Bloods

2 of 23. He missed the maggot. Why should he retire? The competition rules deal with the infringement. The club should back its players. Our useless president should have been screaming the joint down over the lack of protection that the big bloke gets week after week from the umps. He has landed a zinger on the whiskers of a serial tormentor, missed Wakelin and hit Rutten with the softest jab ever thrown in the history of the sport. And this warrants retirement from a big hearted big man who has never shirked a contest or not played his guts out for the club? Players get suspended for breaches of the rules. Wakelin recently admitted that Hall didn't miss him. But whether the swing connected doesn't affect the substance of the argument.

Yes the game has changed but Hall shouldn't be made to retire over this.
The mind games that are being played out here are pathetic.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Noone can make Barry retire. The question for Roos et al is whether it is in the club's best interest - and Barry's best interest - for him to play the last 7 games of the season. If they're not confident that Barry can control his actions, I can't see how they could pick him.Comment

Well all I can say is, if Hall doesnt get a run Then Kirk better pull his socks up play blinders for the rest of the season - kick 4-5 goals per game and justify his and Roos's actions.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Pfft. He would be about as useful to us now as Grimace would be leading a revolution.
The Barry incident was soft, but its important to set an example for the next generation and maintain the culture internally. The whole point is that in letting himself down with stupidity he's letting the team down even more in making himself unavailable. Ok, the club could keep the hounds at bay and deflect the attention but its not really the issue. He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

We need him next year but can we rely on him to keep his word? The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

[QUOTE=Wardy;446593]Oh please - if he is available to play - and he is in the best 22, which he is by a country mile, then if Roos doesnt pick him ,then all Roos is doing is cutting off his nose to spite his face.
Its one thing to be in the best 22, which he clearly is, and another to act in an appropriate way when on the field. If he cannot act in the manner in which the coach and his teammates expect, then its up to the Swans administration to decide whether there is a place in the team for him in future. Its not all about talent, but about actions and attitude as well.
Its a shame, as he's been great for us for a good number of years, but all good (and big bad things as well) must come to an end at some stage.Comment

I reckon that Hall has already been given the push and that they are giving him the opportunity to say he doesn't want t play at the Swans rather than say he was sacked. This way he can go to another club if there is one available. I do not think he will play another game for the Swans - he is gone!Comment

He'll play out this year at the Swans. It's next year that is the question. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

Hall says leaving is an option
Sorry if posted elsewhere
could now be the right time for me finish up at the Swans? By that I don't mean retirement. I mean walk away from the club, not footy. It could give me a break I might benefit from, and freshen me up for a crack with a new club next season,
Surely the end is nigh.I wish my weed was EMO so it would cut itselfComment

Delaying the decision on Hall is classic disciplinary strategy - straight out of psychology 101. As an ex-deputy principal, I used this ploy all the time. "See me before class tomorrow morning because I need a bit of time to decide if this school is really the best place for you". Let the kid sweat it out for a while and have a good think about how things are really getting serious.

Just listening to MMM, talking about Hall.
