Disagree.
All those who think White is suited to fill the FF role today, or next year are dreaming. 2-3 years away IMHO. Is learning at AFL level, and is in a position where he is taking the 3rd best defender on opposition teams and doing well.
Consider:
White vs Scarlett
White vs Prestagiacomo (?)
White vs Lake
White vs Rutten
No doubt he will take this type of guy in the future - it's doubtful in the near future.
I'm not suggesting Jolly not ruck. Indeed he would be invaluable rucking in the forward 50 with the actual ruckman sitting a kick behind play to help keep the ball in.
I think I have more faith in the backup ruckman stocks than you - Currie and Pyke would have to carry the ruck...I see that as a positive, otherwise we may lose one of them through lack of opportunities (see Jolly).
I can see it is possible I may have to eat my words re:White...I hope I will - it will make things much more simple.
Jolly would make a handy forward but would hardly dominate at best would only be worth 40-50 goals a season if he spent all his time in there. As a ruckman he is in the best 3 in the AFL and kicks a few goals already he probably end up with around 20 for the season. I think that a top ruckman is more valuable than a 40 goal forward especially considering the swans stoppage oriented style of play that relishes on first use of the ball.
Currie and Pyke would not do nearly as good a job. By your same reasoning imagine currie and pyke getting slaughtered by Sandilands.
Either way we are low on experienced big men and our performance will suffer somewhat over the next couple of years because of itComment

I think the coaching staff are thinking the same as most of us Swans' forward cupboard is bare - AFL Premiership - Fox SportsComment

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

We need to find our own FF from within the Club. We have had Plugger and BBB over the last 14 years and haven't they done us proud. But it is time to find someone from within.
I am putting my money on White. Firstly because I have watched him develop massively over the last couple of years into a proper Swan, secondly because he has the ego required (and I mean that nicely), thirdly because he has an absolutely dense body mass which makes him physically hard as nails. His concentration and reading of the play has improved extraordinarily in the last couple of months. Does anyone know who is his mentor/private coach? Bravo to whoever.
Also having watched Marty recently pop up and kick some cracking good goals, is he our secret weapon that the other teams don't take into consideration. Has he been given the green light to go ahead and take his chances? Hope so.If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

I don't agree with u Robamiee I think we have found our full forward in White. The problem at the moment is the delivery to him. A lot of the older & mid age players would not have played with him in his capacity as a leading forward in the reserves. They don't know where to kick to his advantage yet but by next season they will, then look out oposition.Comment

Based on feedback coming in from the reserves, I suspect Vez is being groomed as a backline marshall in the mould of Luke Hodge. I think this is an oustanding turn of events. Vez as a forward seems wasted to me. Sure throw him down there for impact occassionaly, but no one spends their first draft pick on a forward pocket crumber. He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.Comment

Shaun Playfair is injury prone & that is why Geelong got rid of him, other than the fact he wasn't able to take a strong contested mark at the cats in the years he was there.Comment

I don't think the forward line is going to be a problem, the real problem has been & will be generating enough youngsters with real pace. Our lack of pace has been a problem recently & was obvious against the pies & at times the saints. We need 1 more big man and a group of fast skillful youngsters. (O'Dwyer is a relevation)Comment

Marty is good. Rhyce is good. Hanners too. But we don't have Kennelly, Willo, or even Mal all of whom could generate real pace. Its that linked fast delivery to the forward line that is at present compromised. It doesn't just happen like magic (sorry), the talent has to be there to start with, and then the setups can develop.
We do however have pace in the ressies, such as Braba, but when you look at him other parts of his game are just not happening. He still isn't making good decisions or delivery often enough to make him reliable.
I believe though that there is hope in Gilchrist, Gordon and BotNoon if they all make it onto the list proper. We may need to shop for pace on a recycled player for 2010. We could get lucky again, along the lines of St Kilda with the dropped Zac Dawson (What were Hawthorne thinking of!!!).If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment
