I love the Sydney chant. It's spine tingling. Other supporters try it for other teams, but it just doesn't have the same "feel".

At the risk of sharing the glory, Annie, I got a slow chant going on Saturday too. It wasn't hard - in fact the most difficult thing was finding space between the "Sydney clap clap clap" cheering. I didn't even stand but started shouting it, those around joined in and soon it was ringing around the grounds. It's great but I reckon it only works in the final quarter with the game in the balance.

I thought at the time that those around the country who claim we're theatre goers need to be at the SCG during a good game. The smaller setting gives an atmosphere like nowhere else (including Subi) and Saturday was a showcase of our passion for the team. How loud was it when Jesse kicked the final goal to give us the lead?

I love it too Annie, and I love the fact that it only really gets momentum when the play deserves it, rarely before half time, when something special takes place, that extra effort that counts. Its like a benediction and its not bestowed by us willy nilly. It has to be earned. That's what makes it so special.

All in all, an enjoyable game, as I have said in a previous post, I was at a friends place having a BBQ and drinks and watched it with 4 Saints supporters, all of whom were saying things like..."I expect this game to be over half way into the 2nd quarter" and things like that, All I kept saying was..."oooooh, I can sense an upset boys, I can sense an upset", let me tell you, those 4 were nervous wrecks in that last quarter, turning on so many of their players. It was a joy to watch. Boy wern't they relieved when the final siren went.

As we were getting out of our car, the (St. Kilda supporting) woman in the next car said to my husband "why did you even bother coming?" And she was serious!

Sounds cool on TV. I think it's something for the fans rather than the players though.

While I understand the bowing I think you should take the credit here. You got 30,000 people jumping. Here it was just me and a Raiders fan.

I think we had a positive effect on the players though - "Chant, believe, fall agonisgly short" etc.

Average games and noise the players probably have trained themselves to block it out (like abuse while kicking for goal). But I doubt any would miss the roar that goes up at the MCG after the anthem on GF day. Likewise, when a crowd is really noisy as it became on Saturday night - or when it's a complete assault as it was on the siren in the 2005 semi.

I recall Voss saying that in the 2003 PF the Lions knew they had to kick the first goal of the last quarter to take the crowd out of the equation. They did and the crowd went quiet and the Lions stormed home.

Hold the presses. Just because they do not conform to the line of the thread, just because they have an alternate opinion, you banish them from the team. Where do you get off? People are allowed to have an opinion, are you begrudging them a voice? Are you punishing people because they do not agree with you? I sincerely hope you are not a boss somewhere - You'd be surrounded by yes-men and you would achieve nothing, because everyone under you would be too afraid to say anything lest you sack them ...

People are allowed to have an opinion mate, doesnt mean the opinion is well thought out or even educated.

This site for some time has had a bad name - very bad for all the negativity thrown towards a team and their supposed supporters. Many won' t post here not because of opinions but the bullying carried out by some here in the inner sanctum who consider themselves to be experts.

The people including myself were expressing their feelings ie they felt proud.
Maybe we are just sick of the negativity that comes from here sometimes... it was refreshing to read positive posts. The person who had a go at those who were negative was having a say, I dont think the others (negative ones) know what its like to have people disagree with them..... and quite frankly Froggie you dont either.

I certainly do not consider myself to be in the 'inner sanctum' of this board.
I certainly don't consider myself an expert.
I don't think I carried forward my opinion here in an aggressive way, just simply stating how I felt.
I see negativity all over the place here.
People calling for the heads of players, Roos negativity, administration negativity, etc etc.
I just ignore most of it, it bores me.

I was going to say how I hate that it is generally regarded as Sydney supporters not having any clue about the game, and they use a 'soccer chant'
But then I wondered how I would say that without copping a whole heap of crap for putting it out there.
I figured that if I stated that I actually liked the chant (which I do) that would be overlooked and some would comment on the interpreted 'negativity' of stating an opinion that might waiver slightly from what is 'expected'
In the end I decided that it wasn't worth the next couple of days ensuing drama.

Guess I was 'bullied' by those who demand we all stick to unwritten "say only nice things" rules.

I must admit that when we are accused of being theatre goers it just rolls off me. After all, I can't imagine greater theatre than the last 5 mins of the 05GF, the last 15 of that years final v Geelong or the sensational win against the odds at Port!
Maybe the chardonnay sipping gets to me a bit..I mean, a good solid red any time!

I was quite happy with a 1 point loss, considering I tipped armageddon in the tip the result poll. Go to be happy with that, also considering the ordinary footy they served up last week, and against the Blues in the 2nd half. 1 point loss is a "win".
