Agree with the others. Good player at the clearances but lacks foot speed which is what we need. Pass.

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

I disagree that we're well set with clearance players. We've been smashed in that department for most of the season (as Nico has frequently pointed out). If you get first hands on the ball at centre clearances and have some players lurking around with good kicking skills to then move the ball forward to advantage, footspeed becomes largely redundant. On the other hand, if you're always second to the ball, you spend most of the game chasing tail, and can be made to look slow and stagnant regardless of the pace or running ability of the team.

Having said that, I don't think we are close enough to challenging for the flag to justify trading a decent pick (which is what it should take) for a player in his late 20s however good a clearance player he is. We're better off hoping that Bird and Hannebury et al can step up over the next two or three seasons and start winning some quality ball in the middle.

Seem to remember an overweight ,overaged, underrated ,discarded player winning the 2008 GF virtually off his own boot. It all depends on whether the coach wants him and uses him wisely.

The Swans won't be playing a grand final next year. We're much better off getting 50-100 games experience into our young players for when they'll be needed to play big finals and hopefully win them off their own boot.

Really for mine, we'd have to be talking about a quality "under-valued" fourth string midfielder like a Chance Bateman, Luke Ball, Giansiracusa/Griffen etc before we started talking draft picks. That's my view at least.

I think the main reason we're often getting beaten in the clearances is not because we lack the extractors, but because we have too many of one type, which is the slow, bottom-of-the-pack type. It seems to me that we often get first hand to the ball, but rarely have the outside players to make first use of the ball effective. Paul Hasleby is another player like Kirk, Bolton, etc, that gets hands to the ball, and then dishes it off. We have too many givers, not enough receivers. I'm pretty sure that statistically, we win a fair few clearances, but you rarely see those clearances translate to effective kicks to the forwardline. Hasleby is not the sort of player than would help that, as good as he is. We need either smart outside receivers to complement Kirk, Jude et al, or allround players (e.g. Judds, Gabletts, Blacks, etc, which are obviously out of our reach).

                clearance players

                ?????
                What are they?

                Rovers?

I think I've been saying all year our roving department sucks.

Bring back Kels and have him do a refresher course with them.

1 million for 3 years for Seaby is a joke.

Don't beleive what you read because just about any player looking for a new home in the next month is going to be linked to us for about $300,000 a year because they know we have cash to spend.

Fair enough, but $20 a year for Seaby is a joke.

Take care everyone. IF they take on Seaby, we will have a lot of word swallowing going on, and IF he gets taken on and does brilliantly, my oh my we will be a sea of red faces, which would look very pretty come final day, dotted amongst the crowd.

Forget his relative abilities or otherwise, we don't need a player who has modelled his haircut on the Paddle Pop Lion.
