And while it has been reported that Orreal has been offered a senior list spot, I am still struggling to quite believe that, given he is almost certainly 5th in line in our ruck division (or 9th if you allow for LRT, Richards, White, or even Playfair being able to pinch hit in the ruck. OK maybe not Richards ideally, but he has done so in the past.)

If they are going to put one of the rookie rucks on the senior list, surely Pyke makes more sense. He'd be the back-up for sure, but he is at least physically ready.

On the other hand, surely Thornton will be promoted? Can't see the point in retaining him if they don't think he is on a relatively even footing with the rest of the players in the 20-30 bracket on the list in terms of competing for a senior spot.

I thought I read somewhere that Carlton had shown an interest in Barlow earlier in the week or last week. With Fevola still available for trade, could we see another trade tomorrow at the last minute?

I'm happy with this years trade and next year looks to be very exciting.

I'm very happy with that news. We have lost a quality player in Jolly, but have managed to do well out of it, and if we possibly could snap someone up in the PSD then we have done very well, especially with a decent set of draft picks to boot. While as with any trade week its a bit of a lottery to whether it will turn out we have made the right moves, I'm more then happy with what we have managed in this trade week.

Bring on 2010 and hopefully the beginnings of a new Swans team to challenge for a flag in the near future!

Gordon is more likely to be rookie listed and with the arrival of Mumford and Seaby don't see Orreal getting upgraded either. Thornton is more likely to get the upgrade

8 out, 4 in, 1 upgrade, draft 3 with picks 6 14 and 38 and we don't actually have to delist anyone. Perhaps one for pick 5 in the Psd

All predicated on the assumption we will put two on the veterans list

Apologies, totally fogot about Thornton and you are right about Gordon.

Doesn't Orreal have to be upgraded this year or cut and Pyke can still spend the year on the international rookie list, but can be the nominated rookie if we don't have two veterans so he can play when required without a long term injury.

I think it's much easier to keep one's sanity and positive frame of mind looking at the results of trade week holistically rather than picking individual trades apart. Roos made the point on SEN last night that the Swans approach trade week differently to some other clubs. They have specific objectives in mind and only worry about things they control.

And while he didn't spell it out specifically, his (and the club's) behaviour over a series of trade weeks suggests it is equally as important to keep his relationships with his players in tact, even if they are leaving the club. He didn't screw Jolly around, he has found Buchanan a good home (as he did with Dempster a couple of years back), and judging by ROK's demeanour, it seems he can sustain the complete goodwill of his charges even when best trading efforts fail.

We've lost a lot of senior players, aren't forced to replace most of them with 18 year olds not yet ready to play, have found solid replacements who fill specific needs in the team, and have reduced the overall age of the squad while retaining a healthy age profile and still plenty of upside in a significant proportion of the list. We may not win the award next season for having the youngest list but we'll be very competitive with most other teams and can feel confident of gradual improvement over the next couple of seasons.

The AFL was considering a proposal to allow one rookie to be kept for a third year not sure if it's been ratified. In any case we could just delist and rerookie him

3rd year rookies have been allowed for a couple of years. I believe you have to technically delist them, but then pre-nominate them at the start of the rookie draft. Not sure whether they have to be made available for the ND before you can do that though.

We did that with Matty Davis didn't we? Originally from SA but stayed long enough to be a nominated NSW rookie?

Davis was delisted and redrafted. He was redrafted as a NSW pick (which was strange) but not as a 3rd year priority rookie. I think the rule came in in 2007.

If you look at the AFL official timetable, you will see a timeslot immediately before the rookie draft where clubs nominate zone rookies (Sydney and Brisbane) and 3rd year rookies.

With Kennedy & Mc Glynn coming in according to AFL list we have picks 6, 14, 28, 38 & 54.
