Round 21 v Collingwood, MCG.
BEST: Goodes, Jolly, Smith, Kirk, C. Bolton, Shaw
With an outside chance of still making the finals, a win here was critical.
Kicking 0.4 wasn't the sort of start that the swans would have wanted, however, Smith had the job on Didak, and Shaw on Swan (Dane that is), and kept them relatively quiet and the swans trailed by only 11 points. The swans traded goals with the pies in the 2nd term, thru Moore, Smith and Goodes, but couldn't get two in a row, until Moore put his body on the line to tap the ball over the top to Bevan who goaled, but Moore paid a heavy price, and never returned to the field. A defining moment as he was playing well up till that moment. 1 point would be the closest the swans would get to the pies. The pies put on 5 goals to 2 in the third term, and 3 to 2 in the last.
Pies by 41.
Goodes finished with 3 goals, Moore a punctured lung and the final nail in the swans season.

Round 22 v Brisbane @ SCG.
BEST: J Bolton, Shaw, O?Keefe, Mattner, O?Loughlin, Goodes
Lions need a win to get a home final, the Swans are seeing off 3 legends.
MOL opened the scoring with his first goal within a minute of the opening bounce. Who hit MOL on the chest?
Goodes of course. How many times have we seen that? The lions scored the next 2 goals in quick succession, before Thornton, and then the man himself, Goodes put the Swans back in front. The lions then kicked the next one, to go to the first break 1 point up. Mr Magic kicked his 2nd, the first of the term, to take the lead again. The Lions then kicked 7 of the next 9 goals to open up a comfortable lead at half time. 26 points. They then kicked the next two goals of the third term to give the lions a seemingly unbeatable lead. The swans dug deep, and White, O'Loughlin, Goodes, White and Kirk kicked the next 5 to reduce the margin to just 8 points, before Brown kicked his 3rd to put the lead back to 2 goals. (14 points). O'Loughlins 4th goal, in his final game, and another to Jack got the swans back to within 2 points, before McGrath gave the lions some more breathing space. The swans seemed to have the momentum, and the passion to win, when Goodes got the team back to 1 point down. A lions thrust forward was quelled by a terrific mark from the retiring Leaping Leo, before the ball was lost and the Lions scored with 4 minutes to go. The swans couldn't perform a Houdini act, and the lions held on to win.
Leo, Magic and Crouch said goodbye to the adoring crowd.
Lions by 8 points.
O?Loughlin with 4 goals, White and Goodes 3.
8-14-0.

No real surprise there. He is a favourite son, and the good things he does on the field are usually noticed by most. Let's hope the Umps saw him just as much.
He picked up 8 BOG's (5 votes), including the final 4 games, and 4 out of 5 games from rnd 7 to 11, missing out on the round 9 game (Port Adelaide).
He also score votes in 14 of the 22 games played.
O'Keefe had 5 BOG's and picked up votes in 13 games.
Jude got 2 BOG's from 11 games he scored votes in.
Shaw got 1 BOg, but still scored votes in 10 games.
Thanks to the 136 people who voted throughout the year.
We averaged just under 40 voters per round.Comment

I think the top four is a pretty accurate indication of the seasons that those four players had.
Congratulations Goodesy, let's hope you can make it 3 tonight too.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

Congratulations Adam, hope it augurs well for tonight.
And thank you and congratulations to Scott - a great piece of work, and very much appreciated. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment
