I have to agree with Donners, it is dificult to fit in everyone you want in. I completely forgot about Schmidt and I am/was a big fan of his when he was up and about.
In a way, that is quite sad, it would be good if half way through the season a couple of guys have a kind of serious injury to let others that missed out have a chance. Either that or our Ressies smash every one in the Canberra league. Yeah, that is a better option.

with Bradshaw almost 100% coming to the Swans after rejecting the blues and popping into Sydney but not Melb this week while coming back from holidays at Wadonga........I have revised my 2010 team.......fingers crossed

Geese our depth looks strong all of a sudden when Goodes can go back in the middle and we have a safe pair of experienced hands upfront in Bradshaw !

I also think that we are better off with Ryan O starting at CHF rather than White........he is difficult to match up on and he has a great lead........That free's up White to lead from a much deeper position and makes it very difficult for the opposition to have smalls in the back pockets for quick counter attack......ie they will need to carry more talls then desired.

Then white can also drift back into CHF for periods of the game......alot less pressure on White as CHF which is such a key possie and maybe beyond him in 2010?.......it also allows us for periods of the game to have Goodes float back into the HF line also which is a weapon as it will be so hard to mark up on White, Bradshaw and Goodes all in the forward line at the one time.......and if Johnston develops quickly we are cheering......

          F: Moore, Bradshaw, White

          HF: Hannebery, Ryan O, Ablett

Midfield: Jack, Mumford, Kirk, Bolton, McVeigh, Goodes

          HB: Malceski, Bolton, Shaw

          B: Mattner, RLT, Barlow

Bench: Seaby, Grundy, Kennedy, McGlynn, (Richards, Smith, Bird)

I think we only need to continue easing in Hannebery,Johnston, Meredith, Veszpremi and not rush them....the two pockets up front will be awesome opportunity for those guys to rotate.........it is 6 to 1 half a dozen the other who is on our Half Forward line........so many to choose from

I've assumed a couple of things here for round 1....

              Shaw C. Bolton Roberts-Thomson
              Kennelly (returning) Grundy Richards
              Kennedy O'Keefe Mattner
              J. Bolton Goodes Malceski
McGlynn Bradshaw (pre season draft) White

              Seaby Kirk McVeigh

Int: Mumford, Ablett, Jack, Luke Ball/Kane Tenace (or equivalent experienced midfielder picked up late in Nov draft)

Unlucky but pressing: Vez, Hannas, Bird, Moore, Meredith, O'Dwyer

Richards, Grundy, Barlow you could throw a blanket over........i like Barlows long feed, versatility and will develop with another season......he could become a genuine starter.......Grundy could go another level........Richards could be on the decline

Um Bird? Veszpremi, Meredith, Johnston I can guarentee will all be in. We are going with youth and there is NO WAY Barlow, and Malceski will be over any of those young guys. Also one of Ablett or Moore will be out.

Why do you say johnston is automatic? What has he done to prove himself at AFL level...IMHO Johnston will at least play first half season in reserves and it will probably depend on - his form, injuries and how we are placed before he is given a run - maybye 3 -4 games to get a taste. He will probably take a couple of pre seasons to fully develop

and just for fun I think opening round could look something like this

                    Playfair White McGlynn

                    Rok Goodes O'Dwyer

                    Smith Kirk Malceski

                    Mattner Lrt Shaw

                    Grundy Bolton Ves

                    R Seaby McVeigh Kennedy

                    I Mumford Jack Bolton Richards

                    Emer Hannaberry Ablett Barlow Moore

If Bradshaw comes to Swans replace playfair with Bradshaw

                    Cheers

Are you sure? where did you get that mail from? I doubt all four would be in that line straight up three are very raw and unproven senior footballers (all with talent) and ones a developing player starting to get a regular game. I cant see how you could throw straight into the 22 like that. Do agree one of Moore or Ablett will be used though

My thinking too. Surely he has to earn his senior spot.

and Auntie (and others) Pebbles wanted to leave because he was being played as a forward. Last year he proved that it is the midfield he wants and is great in there.

I reckon that injury apart, those are the guaranteed round one picks.

Plus Mattner and Jack would probably have to have horrid pre-seasons not to be there.

Otherwise, I reckon it is relatively open for most spots in the team.

I agree ROK is great in the midfield.....I actually prefer him there as an indv player as he has great delivery and cool under pressure.....the real question is the balance of the team......ie do we have enough week to week consistent players upfront without ROK..........we definitely have enough in teh midfield if Goodes stays on ball with Bolton, Jack, Kirk, Mumford, McVeigh......it doesnt need ROK in the midfield with those guys......Kennedy, McGlynn, Smith off teh bench etc

...I would love nothing more than Vespa, Johnston, Hannebery, O'Dwyer etc etc to come thru and absolutely kill it in the forward areas !!.........time will tell.....

its anyones guess at this stage until we see Vespa and Johnston especially play a few games in 2010

BUT its fun speculating.........I love it !

it is hard to pick, which will be great for us as alot of players wll be pushing for selection.
I wouldn't be too hard on bird..It was his 2nd year? (unsure).

Kennedy and McGlynn will be in there no doubt.
Hannes(egg throwing)bury will get alot of game time, mostly forward but will have spurts in the middle i reckon.

JAck will be unleashed i am hoping.

Unless Mal gets his confidence back it will be hard, NOG and Barlow be reg ressies i reckon. Barlow doens't do enough for me and his decision skills are well below.

We have traded well so i honestly think we can push top 8, my only ? will be how well the forward line functions and converts.
though i think 2011 will be better for the run i reckon.

Maybe if Jesse Smith comes our way and stays injury free.
But 1 key ingredient in all of this and i dont think we have it is the classy outside run midfielder (Cousins, Judd, Ablett) mold..

True, not since Willo left. But perhaps McVeigh has now worked himself to the point where he can provide some of that run. And maybe that's a possibility the club sees in McGlynn.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
