Thanks for that. Hopefully same scenario ends up with bradshaw. Fevola will fail and Bradshaw will star for the Swans.Comment

Handy pickup!
For the naysayers, think of it this way, picking up Bradshaw in the PSD @ the reported remuneration is better then a kick in the head
Word of caution thoI agree the Swans have done pretty well with list management so far, but before anyone gets carried away with top 8 & better finishes next year, have to remember that it's quite likely with so many potential changes to the starting line up that it may take a season or 2 for the team to gel & start playing finals worthy footy consistently

I just find the "we shouldnt recruit anyone unless they are going to be a part of our next premiership team" is a bit odd though.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

Unless you are blessed with 100% foresight ,how do you know who is going to be in the Premiership team anyway? Do you know when we are going to win the next one,if so also tell me who will win the Melbourne Cup! A good team is continually trying each season to be as competitive as possible and maybe they can give the premiership a shake, maybe not. I like Stewart Dew as an example of a slow ,old, overweight "has been" who just managed to push Hawthorn over the line in a Grand Final. A Team of youngsters who play together for 4 years or so does not guarantee a Premiership. Dew was a ring-in .
Bradshaw is one of the best recruiting coups since we got BBH or Plugger!Comment

no argument from me - but it has been mentioned by "Cheer Squad" that we shouldn't have gone for Bradshaw as he was too old and injury prone and that it would all end in tears if he re injured etc, and that we should only recruit players who will be in a part of our next premiership. Now unless the girl has a crystal ball, then it could be that our next premiership team may not even be born yet!!! (lets hope that isnt the case, but you know what I mean!!)I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

I like getting Bradshaw - I think he'll be a big plus for us.
A big bonus for me, however, is having a minor victory over Carlton. In the 80s, Carlton happily poached Swans who were homesick, disgruntled, wanting more money -Mitchell, Williams, Evans, Rhys Jones, etc - and they hovered over us like vultures when we nearly went under in the early 90s. So gratifying to have someone pick us over the Blues!"Notwithstanding the sight of all our miseries, which press upon us and take us by the throat, we have an instinct which we cannot repress, and which lifts us up." - PascalComment

All in all, an excellent club to get one up on. Now let's flog them on the field.Comment

Unfortunately, he's on the wrong side of 30, while he has played well since, the risk of career ending injuries increases dramatically with age. And if things are working out as we all hope, and he suddenly breaks down, we're going to have to go back to the drawing board all over again anyway.
It's the same with Kennelly - everyone knows he's injury prone and his AFL glory days are almost certainly behind him.
Your earlier point about Malceski - I've already stated that we should consider trading him at the end of 2010 if he doesn't produce next year. The same goes with any mid-tier player who's been on the books for a while. Goodes and Craig Bolton are proven champions for the club; I would not like to see them traded.
I just think we should move away from this strategy of trying to cling to the eight for as long as possible, in the belief that we must because of the market in Sydney. Performing cosmetic surgery on the squad with ageing players isn't going to move us forward - people in Sydney aren't buying it anymore. They know we're a fair way off our next flag, and we're not going to fool anyone.
Mick Malthouse hit the nail on the head when he said part of the satisfaction in following a team is watching young players grow and develop into champions. Apart from players like White, who will be our next Barry Hall or Michael O'Loughlin? Our next Paul Kelly? That's what we really need to focus on.Comment
