But it's a big assumption that that is what he would do. He's just secured himself a sizeable amount of money for his retirement nest egg. Why would he pass that up? Especially if it means he plays in a city he clearly gave serious consideration to, notwithstanding the fact he finally decided he'd prefer to live in Sydney.Comment

In any case, I don't believe Melbourne have any salary cap issues that would prevent them drafting him.Comment

He can't say that. (that he will only play for Sydney)
The AFL changed those rules circa Plugger coming out of retirement.
But he can say that his 'family is moving to Sydney' and he 'is opening a business in Sydney' etc etc and make it VERY clear that Sydney is his only option without actually saying it.
Thee days clubs don't want to draft players who don't want to be there.
That mindset changed circa Rocca and the Swans. The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

Yeah he can make things really difficult as in saying that he will live in Sydney no matter who drafts him (i.e commute), make noises about not playing for Sydney will shorten his career etc etc)
Roos already started the whole PR war the other day really, reminding everyone that he really wants to live in Sydney, had 4 kids etc. Expect a lot more of that.Comment

Just reading the article, there are no direct quotes from Melbourne management but it's true about them having room to fit him in.
Gonna have to endure all this speculation till December now.

We're not there yet.
Are we there yet?Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

1. Melbourne - Luke Ball
2. Richmond - Mitch Thorp
3. Fremantle - Some ex-Essendon hack.
4. North Melbourne - Some hack that they can actually afford.
5. Sydney - Daniel Bradshaw

I do however still think he'll end up a SwanComment

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment
