I suspect that for every player playing in the Reserves there a list if what he needs to achieve/concentrate on, and this would include sticking to the game plan and other specific instructions such as tagging, as well as off field matters such as attitude, mental toughness, fitness, physical development, training attendance and sustained effort. Ticking all the boxes would not necessarily mean that a player gets listed in the best for any particular game, but would be judged ready for senior promotion when the opportunity arose.
I don't think it is a matter of someone on the Reserves' best list is automatically considered for a seniors game - not unless all the boxes are ticked. Form alone is not enough. I also don't think that morale would be adversely affected by any one player being promoted over another - each player would know what he has to achieve per his checklist and would know when his time will come. They are a team, greater than the sum of its parts.
There is a place in any team for both solid team players and the "flashies". Vez seems to be in the latter category. And will, no doubt, be a very valuable player for us in the next few years when all the boxes on his particular checklist have been ticked.Comment

A couple of years ago yeh, but watch some C'Wood games nowadays - tremendous work ethic imo; he's everywhere, has lovely touch (Not in Pendelburys' league but that would come with his basketball background I suspect), and confident marking above his head. For a fourth (? I used to know all the drafts of the top of my head.. Was he 2005? Umm. Marc Murphy draft I think. 06?) he goes alright, granted he isn't getting tagged 'cause of the midfielders ahead of him, Swan, Pendels, Didak etc. Anyway, I rate him is what I'm trying to say.Comment

Was thinking exactly the same thing. He's having a very good year, people just have a fixed idea on him. He's proably under-rated actually, as everyone says he's over-rated. So we have got you fooled too have we Other Jesse?
We all have little bits of inspiration which we like sharing with the world. Little gems of insight......however.......we have to admit it, its a case of Hit and Miss......except for me of course....If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

Agree on that too. He's starting to really develop and perform on a consistent basis. I don't want to compare the two, because they are quite different players, but Gary Ablett Jnr's early career followed quite a similar pattern: inconsistent half-forward who couldn't really play midfield early, though was given short bursts there, and in the 4-5th season started showing something special. Gablett then broke out and became elite the next season. Daisy might do the same!A couple of years ago yeh, but watch some C'Wood games nowadays - tremendous work ethic imo; he's everywhere, has lovely touch (Not in Pendelburys' league but that would come with his basketball background I suspect), and confident marking above his head.
