As a completely uneducated guess I would say " lost too much weight" as he looked nice and lean in the training photos.

I'd say the opposite. I reckon he lost just about all of his puppy fat, but has put on too much muscle, as he looked both lean and built. It would explain why he's doing almost exclusively laps, to try to shed a couple of kilos.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

In those entertaing interviews Henry Playfair does with the players,Meredith commented on Vezpremi being in re-hab with him, and being a nuisance. So something has gone wrong.

Just back from the Fan Day (I'll start a thread) and double checked Vespa. Holy moly. Lean mean machine. Now built like an elite runner, strong legs, not an ounce of anything else, and if you will take a moment to understand this, it looks like his shoulders have dropped. He always had that high hunched look asthmatics have (witness Kell), and today I could say that is no longer the look.

Obviously I don't know the specifics of the case. I have a friend who is a professional excercise physiologist, former rugby player who worked with Melbourne Storm amongst others. He always said as a rule of thumb never add more than 5Kgs of muscle, as some muscles will become disproportionately stronger and injuries will occur. Unfortunately AFL seems full of young players having over strain muscle problems

Really our history in this area in recent years os not good

Did vez get too lean or something? And now he needs to bulk up? Thats dangerous for soft tissue injuries I'd think.

I want to see him out there ASAP!

No, consesus is that he had probably gone too far to muscle mass meaning from the gym so he is carrying a little more weight than needed.

They are now trying to get some distance work into him to to lighten the load and strip him of some of that muscle mass.

Massive issue for young kids is putting too much muscle mass on to early and therefore enduring groin problems and soft tissue injuries due to their bodies being out of balance.

DST, as a "noticer" with no qualifications I do understand what you mean. Any of you remember back in the '90s when Brad Seymour and the love of my life Stuey put on big condition, looked fantastic visually, and their running slowed to almost a walk? They took a while to drop back, almost to the end of the season. It was quite a while ago - thank heavens for sports s cience now.

Looks like the computer programme stuffed up. Wonder if that's why Ves's name isn't being mentioned too much. Keep it under your hat boys.

I clearly remember that, ol' Maddog looked like a pit bull but he lost a lot of speed. Took almost a whole season to get it right and when he did he didn't look back.
It is no surprise you remember how good he looked Prim. Guns of steel.

Oh Good Info guys! Good to hear.

I remember when stuey bulked up, gone are the days when players didnt start to hit their straps until rd 11, they are all supremely fit (game fit, not bulging muscles from the gym) from rd1. Goodesy use to always come back MASSIVE as well, then he took a few weeks to lean back up and tear it up!

This would be my guess too - I've commented elsewhere that many of the Swans look much leaner this year than prior years. V was the obvious contrast - he'd become a (muscle) monster over the off-season.

Isn't this what went wrong with Buddy Franklyn last season? I read he has lost a heap of upper body mass in the offseason and gained a lot of speed - haven't seem him yet myself.

From what I understand it was too much hydration.
