According to newspaper reports today he wants to stay with the Swans and to get the deal done it involves upping his contact payment. The Swans are waiting to see what the overall spending cap will be. It seems that he would rather stay than go and I hope that this will be the case.

I think the point is you wouldn't say anything if you had definitely decided to leave.
I don't recall Buddy, Ablett, Dangerfield et al being quoted as saying "yeah definitely" they wanted to stay late in the year before they left.
Doesn't guarantee anything, but would be bizarre to have made up your mind to leave and be quoted that way now.Comment

I am surprised they are still persisting with Reid. It obvious his body cannot handle the demands of AFL footy. No other club would be interested in him. At the best they may get 4-5 games from him before he gets injured again.Comment

He's obviously not going to play this year now, but he 100% improves our team if he's in. He's superior to Xavier forward and has the versatility to play wing or key defence.

Back on topic, that article in the Herald Sun didn't fill me with confidence as the headline didn't match the content.
I hope we retain Tom, but there was nothing specific in that article that suggested he was definitely stayingComment

I'll bet there are a few young players that quietly hope Mitchell get's traded. More money and midfield time on offer. You can start with Heeney and Mills.
I would make this offer to either Carlton or Richmond:
We give them Mitchell, Towers and throw in Hiscox and McGlynn if they want, plus our 2nd and 3rd round picks.
We get their 1st round pick this year and 2nd round pick next year. So that's a top 6 pick this year and a pick in the 20s next year.
That gives us 6 senior spots open. We have 2 first round picks this year and elevate 4 rookies: Papley, Newman, Foote and Marsh. We need to create space for talent coming through the system.
If Reid and AJ come good with their injuries there won't even be room for Abe Davis to play as a KPP. But we can play him as a big bodied midfielder. He's capable of being like a Patrick Cripps or Bontimpelli.Comment

Also I see it is being reported today that the negotiations between the AFL and the AFLPA on the new collective agreement (which will set the TPP for future years) might not be concluded till after the finals. That must make it more difficult for the Swans to put any revised offer to Mitchell.Comment

Whilst you're thinking laterally in terms of list management, there's a few flaws with your strategy, namely:
1. Hiscox and McGlynn have no trade value whatsoever whilst Towers would be lucky to be worth a late 3rd/4th rounder.
2. Richmond and Carlton wouldn't have the cap or list space for multiple players even if they wanted them (and they probably wouldn't)
3. It's not Supercoach, these guys are real people with real lives, packing them up and moving them to a new city/club is not as simple as pressing a trade buttonComment

One of the AFL's biggest improvers, prolific Sydney onballer Tom Mitchell is poised to re-sign with the Swans as soon as next week.
Mitchell's manager Phil Mullen and the Swans officials met on Tuesday regarding a new deal and while an in-principle agreement has yet to be reached there is good will on both sides for a deal to be agreed next week. Michael Gleeson, The AgeComment
