I didn't have too much of a problem with the Malceski free. (Just with why he had the ball in the first place - why did we play backwards from a free in their defence.) I hated the one against Mattner, and the one against Brown in front of our goal wasn't much better.

I think my main problem with it is that he had only gone 180 degrees when he got his kick away and we heard the umpires explanation to Mal was that he was pinged because he'd been turned 360. It's a pretty big difference in my opinion.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

thought the umpiring was typical today..i made conscious effort to not notice the umps this week too much. Was a pleasant change.

After watching a few more games this weekend the umpiring is a bloody fiasco atm and the afl seem hell bent on not falling on their sword in fixing it.

Good effort from depleted Swans, lots to be happy about.
Didn't like Roosey's uncharacteristic comment "We are not a good enough team to win games with so many outs." Doesnt inspire confidence.

My observations on our four lossess: why don't Swans players WEAR THEIR MAN when the opposition is coming out of our forward line. Is that really old fashioned now, and it's let your man get away 3, 5 10 metres or more. I don't seem to get the modern game. Nor have I EVER understood why a player is dragged after kicking a goal - a few seconds after he has had a huge injection of confidence and is absolutely dying to stay involved.

Especially as there is no law against being spun 360....unless you can dispose of the footy....which you can't if one of your arms is pinned....then you'd get pinged for throwing. Umpire have low IQs....and I'm not joking, they honestly don't understand this stuff....and/or can't think quickly enough toi remember the rules in a pressure situation.

I appreciate everyone's disappointment, my own preference is to keep focussing on rebuilding.

At this stage I think we know Hannerbery, Mumford, Kennedy, Jetta, Rohan, Smith, Heath, White. Before the end of the season I would like to see Meredith, Veszpremi, Lewis Johnston, Sumner, TDL given a chance. It is bugging me watching Playfair run around, as he is not part of the future. Pyke looks to have a future in the AFL

We're not genuinely contenders this year, and will be better faster if we develop our younger guys, so that is my preference. They will lose games, but that is the way it goes

Yeah look Pyke was OK yesterday but the question long term is whether he will ever provide enough around the ground. Ruckmen have to be mobile these days and preferably play a fair bit forward.

We have Ryder and Hille this week who along with Cox-Nic Nat are the prototype ruck duos for the new age.

With Seaby and Currie encouragingly banging down the door I still think Pyke is our 4th best ruckman.

Well I got it Bas. Actually it was Pitiful Pittman. He could have done much better that is for sure, but he was wearing a black armband, and anything like a death in the family will put Adam off his concentration.

The children played very well, we have some good boys coming up the ranks. I got enjoyment from that side of our game. I also liked he fact that young Hanners was shattered by the result. We have a big competitor in our team, he reminds me of Kell. Not a bad thing.

Thought Smiffy was outstanding. Jesse is getting better, he is just not a "natural" footy player. Red Rohan is. Cambo will do just fine.
Playfair did the best he could with what he had, and it wasn't too bad.
Jack could be a game breaker. Mummy deserves a special hug from me. Joey is such a quiet player, he gets lost when it comes to kudos, but he deserves them.

Midfield, could have been a LOT better. Goal kicking, well we have done worse, its just that Goodsey had a MickyO day.

I am disappointed, but not yet ready to cut my throat. At least we are not Adelaide.....

I didn't see the game but is there a spot for TDL in this side? He seems to be the kinds player that would convert 3 possessions into 3 goals.

White had 2 marks and presented a couple of times. He crunched one pack from what I saw. Please post all those moments when he brought it to the ground. Read my post. He played from behind all day. From the first day at Auskick you are taught to play in front as a forward. Not real hard to comprehend by an AFL footballer I would think.
I think you will find it was team rules about the structure and the way the hawks were setting up. When the ball was in our 50m the hawks had 6 defenders outside the 50 - 4 more or less 60m from goal and 2 just past the centre. we had 4 forwards. three more or less about 60 metres and 1 about the centre - white. i think the strategy was to use all the space behind white. we did manage three goals from this structure on basketball like fast breaks - one to mcveigh and the goal to hannebury in the last and one other that i've forgotten about. The plan was to handball it out draw defenders and kick over the back. the problem was that we never really looked like we could get it out fast enough regularly enough.

This was one of those days where we got the rub of the green i reckon and yet still didn't win. Having said that if you look again at the play that led to them going a point up after shaw's miss there is a blatant push - not just a hand in the back but a blatant push - on mumford when he was going to easily mark the kick in. he tumbled forwards ball went out the back and raced down the other end. No-one mentioned it on the commentary but i watched the game again last night (thanks fox sports !) and it was as obvious a free as you will ever see.

Not just that. He was playing one of the the weakest "tall" defensive lines in the competition - one which largely plays without a decent ruckmen to fill the whole. The reality is that our talls should be dominating against the hawks - it isn't exactly scarlett and taylor or harley back there - or leppitsch and mal michael. Thats why when your best player who can actually get the ball (as opposed to follow their opponent all day while they go and get it) is played forward he needs to do better than 1.5

Interesting to see everyone bagging out Goodes for his game yesterday. It wasn't wet there yesterday but geez it was windy. Had some very tough sets shots considering the conditions.
