Well said Primmy. Also, they are kids. You can tell them to shape up 100 times and it means nothing. Sack them and they say "wow, I was doing it wrong" and try harder. Vez has all the talent in the world and we have to hope, for his sake, that he turns up next season and stars. That doesn't mean he would have to for us. Do you think Baz would have tried as hard for the Swans if he's stayed? Was the trade offer the wake-up call for Jude that turned him into a geniune senior hero? Would Mummy have stepped up at the Cats?

We'll never know. And when it's a senior player it's easy to be annoyed (Baz, Jolly) but when it's a kid I just wish them luck. Good luck Vez - I hope it works out for you.

If that does occur, a certain section of this forum will remain in denial and refuse to acknowledge it as they do with one of our other recent trade outs.

You just have to know how to pick them :-)
As promised, our picks in the 40s and 50s that didn't make it since the Goodes ND in 1997.

        40 Fred Campbell
        59 Brett Rose
        52 Ryan O?onnor
        59 Dwayne Simpson
        54 Jarrad Sundqvist
        53 Daniel Hunt
        50 Josh Thewlis
        47 Andrew Erickson
        59 Matthew Davis
        47 David Spriggs
        51 Matthew Laidlaw
        54 Ryan Brabazon
49 Daniel Currie - jury still out
        53 TDL - looks promising
54 Byron Sumner - I hold hope for him making it

So as you can see there is not much confidence in players picked 40+ making the grade based on our strike rate

If you're intent on making us depressed (or realistic), maybe you should also add in the names of players drafted with picks in and around 21 who haven't made it either - like DOK, Willoughby, Schmidt (a bit later and certainly affected by injury), Stevens (decent player but not much value for us).

No no no Lizz, we don't want to go there! But I am very hopeful that Rohan and Johnston are going to make the grade in a big way. I noticed Johnston was really putting in on the 3km time trial yesterday so maybe he is now injury free and got his head in the right place.

I thought this years delistings by all clubs were interesting for the number of high draft picks on the lists.

But that's to be expected. Picks in the 40s and 50s will always have an element of speculation about them, as the "sure things" have gone. But we have a reasonable record with utilising later picks, I dare say considerably better than average (well, it would have to be, given our relatively shocking record with 1st rounders).
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

I hope Vez makes it and in the end he will probably be able to get a 100+ games for the Doggies playing as a deep forward pocket who is rotated through the bench.

Unfortunately for us that was not what we needed or wanted from him and therefore after three years it was time to move on and look for something different.

It will now be up to blokes like Merideth, Sumner, Rohan, Gordon, McNeil to all push for senior selection as midfield rotations to help bolster our midfield running capacity.

Trent Stubbs - isn't this the player 12 months ago that Hawthorn supporters were taunting us about missing out on as they had him on a NSW Scholarship? Seem to remember them claiming he was going to be a gun.

Just noticed after last Friday's list lodgements that either Hawthorn chose not to rookie him or Stubbs rejected being rookied by them to take his chances in the ND.

Does anyone know much about him?

707, wish I did know who Trent Stubbs is. With a name like that......either a class act or ... not.

Anyone note we are now on page 79. That's lot o pages.

Not sure about Birdy. I'm having trouble finding a spot in the best 22 for him. I though he was going to be excellent but i'm having second thoughts now.

Not sure why anyone's opinion would have changed over the past year. He played one pre-season game and had claims on being BOG. After his long lay-off, he was brought back into the senior team with minimal reserves time, indicating how firmly he is the coaches' plans. He was never going to be back to that Blacktown form after such a long break but was at least serviceable in the few games he managed before his foot let him down again.
