    Spot on -- it's a long way from top draft picks to winning a flag. Look at all the top picks Richmond, Melbourne and Carlton have had. The Saints got plenty, too, and haven't got past runner-up.

      Large nostrils?

      Big Al bonus if you move at all. I think you mispelt plucky. It's spelt podgy.

        Except that unless we have some surprise delistments, we are willing to move veterans off the main list. We could well see two veterans off the list, Barlow delisted, MOD retained, and 4 draft picks taken.
        Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

          2 - Dale Thomas
          3 - Xavier Ellis

          10 - Marcus Drum
          11 - Shaun Higgins
          13 - Shannon Hurn

          Pretty scary in 5 years time!
          I think this might work better if you used the 2001 version:

          1 Luke Hodge, 2 Luke Ball, 3 Chris Judd, 7 David Hale, 10 Sam Power, 11 Richard Cole, 13 Nick Dal Santo, (and some bloke named Luke Molan, 9).

          Now theres a midfield.

            What a surprise - a coach is pleased with trade week. Surely one, somewhere, just once will loose his nut:
            * my list manager is a boozehound;
            * we paid over the odds for a couple of b-grade spud;
            * we got bent over in giving away one of our stars;
            * our main recruitment target told us to set our ears on fire;
            * our residual draft picks will get us a dog turd, two curry puffs and a guy who'd be heckled by his mum
            'Delicious' is a fun word to say

              Murphy - yes
              Thomas - serviceable up until 2010 when he hit his straps
              Ellis - many Hawks supporters think he is serviceable but soft. No star by any evaluation
              Ryder - plenty of injuries and yet to set the world on fire. His side has struggled
              Clark - good strong player
              Drum - didn't make it
              Higgins - injury riddled
              Hurn - booming kick for the wooden spooners. had injuries and I see him as average footballer.

              What is on paper doesn't necessarily materialise on the ground.
              Yeah but add those players to Ablett, Brennan, Rischitelli, Brown, Harbrow, Bock, Fraser and Krakouer along with 10 of the best 17 years old's from last year and you have the makings of a very competitive side.

              They probably don't have the mix as yet, but that will come with a couple more drafts/trades and 50 games into this batch of 17 years olds and draftees.

                Whats not to be pleased about?.. because when we.... "put our structures and processes in place".....
                'the guy heckled by his mum' will have won a brownlow,
                'two curry puffs' will be a B and F runner up and a premiership player,
                and the legend himself..'dog turd'.. will end up being inducted into the afl hall of fame.
                All's well that ends well.

                  Gold Coast - be scared, be very scared. Will be a power within three years and have so many players outside their best 22 that other teams are willing to give high draft picks for in the next few years that this domination could last a decade. Expect GC to be significant traders of players in the next few years as the salary cap bites and players look for more opportunities but they will have a stunning best 22. Michael Voss eat your heart out, you could have been the coach of this talent laden outfit rather than the 2011 wooden spooners you are heading up.

                  GC is making me feel sick as I may not last to see the next Swans flag, aaaahhhhh

                  Don't even want to think about GWS

                      I'd wait and see about the Gold Coast - I'm not convinced they'll be this all-conquering although they'll be fairly successful fairly soon. As for GWS, I'd be surprised to see them still here in 2015. I still think it's a dumb idea that will fail.

                          This gives me a curious dilemma. I live an hour from Cararra just over the NSW border. I love the Swans but to see live AFL when I retire next year I will be driving to Cararra and watching the matches there. Except when they play the swans I will probably find myself supporting them and enjoying watching Gary Ablett win games for them.When they play the Swans I will be decked in red and white and have my swannies flag.

                            Makes a lot of sense to me. No rule says that you can't support 2 teams.

                            I'll be going to GWS games as well as Swans games too.

                              Haven't seen it mentioned but the Ves trade also sent our 4th round pick 73 to the Dogs but now the dust has settled the Dogs have got our 5th round pick 90. Somewhere during the week something has transpired to give the Dogs a much later pick, did they owe us somehow for something?

                                Do two of our draft picks need to be used to elevate Pyke and Gordon? If so, does that mean we will only pick up two youngsters in the draft?
