I think Bird or Moore will be fighting for the same role up front............but that is based on Roo's style of game plan.............we have a new coach and our game plan may alter a little up front ??

especially if Rohan, Jetta etc lift to another level and TDL keeps his momentum !

Why wasnt Jetta at pre season training with TDL ?? or Sam Reid ??

When Bird went out with his injury, Roos specifically said he'd slot back in as soon as he was fit. Then the injury just went on and on. It may be different under Horse but it's fair to think , as Liz and Roos said, that he's in the Swans' best 22. Hopefully, the foot is fixed and the rest has done him good. He was certainly keen to get back out there at the trivia night so you'd imagine he'll work very hard this off season. So, again as Liz said, there's no reason to suspect he won't be playing seniors in R1 2011.

It may have been discussed earlier but some of the young fella's we may be hoping for are Seb Tape, Pat McCarthy etc

Seb Tape looks sharp for a medium tall defender..........good rebound and backs himself

or midfielders Josh Green or Luke Parker ??

Would suggest that playing 18 plus game in your first year qualifies you for a slightly longer break than the rest of the 1 to 3 year listed players.

Don't want to burn him out to quickly.

Aah ... this is Sydney, let's get some more mids.
Seriously, the team with the more versatile players is better off, as per Collingwood. And we are pretty OK for talls at present.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

We've not got much in the nursery though, and talls can take a while to find their feet. Players drafted this year aren't going to be picked for what they can do next year, or even for a couple of years afterwards, but for what they can deliver once they hit 22 years old. White is still pretty young but not proven as a true key forward target. Johnston and Reid are completely unproven. That's about all we have as developing talls. That's quite a small basket to pull all one's eggs in.

Our first pick is the only one "likely" to produce a future player so it will be very interesting to see whether we go for a midfielder, and there should be a promising one still there at pick 21, or whether we go for a KPP probably a forward but I think the cupboard may be a little more bare of them by our pick. Burgan's Phantom Draft usually is close to the money on what a club will do with their first pick, only two weeks to find out I suppose but certainly not as exciting as last year.

In terms of development time for youngsters, I agree. Otherwise I'm more than happy to keep going with White, I'm confident about Johnston and Currie, and imo Reid is ready to go. I suspect too that in the light of his continued growth, Rohan squeezes into the tall category. The only one who's completely untried is Orreal, with his terrible injury luck. We'll see if the club thinks he's worth another go on the rookie list.
If there's a good tall by the time we get our first draft pick, we may take a dip, but I suspect the club would prefer a mid with better credentials.
The other factor is that we have a decent record of picking up talls from elsewhere and I'd expect that we'd continue to take this tack.
In the meantime we have a good bunch of developed talls who will see us through a couple more seasons.

Sorry Mr D. Jake was delisted and told me he was heading back to Qld and will play in the local comp. He was still in rehab with his back injury at the time of the B&F; that makes it about 10 months. Unlikely to be a prospect for some time to come, if he ever does decide to apply for a draft in the future.

Agree Reid is good to go, so who will be dropped from last season to make way for him. Then again he has a lot of bulk to acquire so one would think he would get limited release for 2011.

Rohan in for Kirky (not literally, but in that area), and then.....LJ yes, but for whom....... White? I would be bitter if that happened, and we wouldn't like to see that. Bevo? dunno.

LRT and Seaby to come back in anyway. So will Braddy.

That's the problem with having depth. We are not used to it and we don't know quite what to do with it!

Just noticed after last Friday's list lodgements that either Hawthorn chose not to rookie him or Stubbs rejected being rookied by them to take his chances in the ND.

Does anyone know much about him?
I saw a bit of him last year in the Rams games but he missed a fair chunk of this year with injury. He's only 186cm but plays like a KPP and he is a super mark. Swans & Hawks had a big battle for his scholarship signature with Hawthorn winning out. Very interesting that they see a guy like Mahoney better and if fit he'd make a pretty handy rookie.

Been scouring the Hawks BF board, they seem to think that the Hawks wanted to keep him as a scholarship player for another year and had received special dispensation from the AFL to do so (similar to what we did with Nathan Gordon in 2009) but he wasn't happy with the idea and might end up at another club.

                          Pick No.21 - Luke Parker

The AFL site have the possible top 25 draft picks and it suggests we will take Luke Parker @ 21. I have read a little info on this kid and sounds very promising. (The big footy thread devoted to him is very glowing.

Unfortunately i cant find any video footage.

Not sure that the draft order would be right but i do recall the same kind of thing last year suggesting we would get Rohan and possibly Jetta so who knows.

                          Will be interesting.

Go to the AFL Draft Machine page:

NAB AFL Draft Machine - AFL.com.au

                            Use the following field entries:
                            Position - Midfielder
                            Height - All
                            Skill Set - Possession Winning

Luke Parker will come up as a suggested player. From there you can watch a video.

Another player there is talk of us getting is a Western Australian named Reece Conca. He will come up with the same field entries on the Draft Machine! Apparently Longmire and Beatson interviewed this kid for ages at Draft Camp, and were extremely impressed.

The fact that the two players we've been linked to are pure footballers, who work inside and outside of the contest, and have great heads on their shoulders, pleases me no end!

For someone who asked about why some of the boys weren't at preseason; Reid and Hanners were both in shoulder slings, so they will probably still be in rehab. A fair bit of maintenance goes on after the season ends and their start times for the big yards are staggered.
