Not that I'm one to normally read New Idea but I note that Capper's son at age 16 has apparently given up playing aussie rules due to the high expectations of an intefering, slightly silly father.

He reckons he was alright too.

You're kidding aren't you?? I mean seriously. Did you watch any games this year?

Yes, all of them - thought I had to watch the lean mid-season when I got back from France. I think you'll find Shaw scores very well in some games and quite well in others. Remember this is being judged not by biased followers of the team but by the people who tell each player what to do then judge how well they do it. If you recall Shaw did quite well in the awards last year and then, when Tadhg came back, had to fulfil different roles. I'm guessing some of those jobs frustrated him as much as it frustrated us but I don't think his bosses would have been as disappointed as you obviously were.

Anyway, we only have a week until we find out. Meanwhile, can you tell me the 10 players whose performance over the 24 weeks who will hold him out of the list?

I think it's far more likely that Brett Meredith's Swans career will be better than Adam Schneider's at St. Kilda.

For what its worth, consistency was not Shaws best attribute, but my gawd he did work at doing better than the did the previous week. You have to give him that and by the end of the year he showed his true colours; never gave up, and never gave up on himself.

Doggy had an inconsistent year too, but apples and pears. They are very different players. I have a lot of respect for Doggies smarts.

Will trade week be put back now because of the draw today?

The start of the trade period has been put back one day until Tuesday. It will finish the following Monday. It's longer than usual as it was expected the with the Gold Coast there might be some more wheeling and dealing than usual. The Suns have indicated they won't be that active however. We'll see...
