Jolly might love the Pies army now but if he has a @@@@ game on Sat and they lose he'll wish he was back in Sydney. The Pies scum love to eat and kill their own.
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

They also love to breed with their own, then they eat them and kill them. Artifical selection at it's best. Fortunately for us, intelligence isn't a key trait of desire within their community, otherwise they could take over the World.

I think this is a great philosophy in life... but not in footy fandom. This is why longtime fans are so awesome! (I say this as a relatively new fan with aspirations of maturing over then next 40 years of Swan-watching.) Never forget your heroes, or your villains. Retell the great stories at every opportunity, including the ones with unhappy endings. It's not life, it's FOOTY! Get stuck in, I say.

Pies aren't tough. They are soft as they come. The raw flesh is more forgiving on their gums.

I have no issues regarding what happened in 2006. I have issues with him going to the Pies. Simple choice between good vs evil and HE GOT IT WRONG....

I hope the Saints smash him.... oh and beat the Pies as well....

Whilst I agree with you that as a professional footballer he definately should have played, even if it meant he wasn't to be at the birth. After all, he will be feeding and clothing that child very well for many years to come courtesy of being a professional footballer.

                  However....

Your statement above is truly bizarre.

I'm guessing you have no children, or you are of the age that being at the birth was not part of the ritual. If you have witnessed the birth of your child, than that statement is even more bizarre.

I was at the birth of my children. I wish I'd been playing in a Grand Final instead.

                    It bloody well hurt

Jolly is a puppet. He has no soul. Read: a small figure of a person or animal, having a cloth body and hollow head, designed to be fitted over and manipulated by the hand.

Apart from that - not a bad bloke : )

Although I'd like to see how your argument would go with Mrs. Royboy, top 40. Simply selfish???
                          Be ready to duck!!
Funny, Mrs Top 40 told me to "let it go" yesterday. That said, it IS relatively topical, because of Jolly's very recent comments made during this year's Grand Final week.

As a father, I have had the joy and pleasure of witnessing the birth of my three children. However I maintain that it is nevertheless a selfish pursuit, and indeed it is a recent social trend, dating back only about 35 years. (Whatever happened to those smoked filled hospital waiting rooms full of expectant fathers!)

However, in the scheme of things, there must be the extremely rare but very, very important task as part of one's responsibilities, were such responsibilities must take precedence. For an professional AFL player, that precedence is clearly to play in a Grand Final.

After all that, I wish all the best to Darren for the game, he was my Redback player in 2007. (Still hoping a Saints win nevertheless)

I have certainly witnessed the birth of all of my three children. The greatest moments in my life. But I maintain it is selfish pursuit. Why are you there? How is your presence for any purpose other than to witness a wonderful event with the child's mother. Exactly the same can be said in relation to be a massive fan attending a Grand Final as a spectator. You are not there to assist the team, you are there for your own selfish desire to see your team win the flag.

And for the record, if it was a choice between witness the birth of one of my three children, or witnessing a Swans GF, (and I am a MAD Swans supporter missing one Home game since 2002 and no finals games since 1999), I would take the former any day, any year.

The point here is that Darren Jolly had responsibiliies in playing the Grand Final in 2006 that impacted upon many many people beyond himself. Using another example, a choice between saving a person's life in surgery or watching the birth of the child, your work responsibilities take procedence.

Wow it must be offseason for this to attract so much attention.

Have a look at what Jolly actually said: "Especially this time, (it's) probably going to be times 10," he said. "The following that Collingwood have is second to none, in a way it sort of makes Sydney look small."

There's no putdown of the Swans there, just an observation about the focus on the two clubs, which seems pretty spot on to me. Perhaps Sydney-siders don't appreciate just how huge Collingwood are down here?

If there were a choice between giving birth and going to the granny .... I'm at the granny.
