This thread has taken things to whole new level of inanity. Had we won this game by 1 point instead of losing it by a point we wouldn?t be having this conversation. Personally I reckon anyone not wanting to be at the birth of their child is displaying a serious lack of commitment. It?s laughable that some of these comments are couched in the assumption that the timing of the birth was somehow a deliberate and calculated act. Anyone who has tried to conceive would know that the timing of the conception can be random at best, and rarely is the due date for the baby?s arrival accurate. Further, there seems to be a latent assumption that we were somehow destined to make the Grand Final again in 2006 and that the culprits should have known this. Of course, a lot of things needed to go our way for that to happen. Had we not won the Qualifying Final at Subi for example we may not have made the GF at all.

I?m not much fussed either way about Jolly, but I think to isolate him as being the cause for our 2006 GF defeat is disingenuous. Although I have never revisited that particular game (and why would you?), there were a few passages that I?ve retained that could have tipped the balance in our favour in a closely fought contest. For example:

Tadhg slipping over after playing on, being subsequently tackled by Cousins and penalised leading to a goal.

Amon Buchanan bumbling and fumbling the ball in the defensive goal square as Judd came sprinting through kicking the ball from beneath him for a West Coast goal.

ROK not moving the ball on quickly enough late in the final quarter, smothered by Chick, passed to Hunter for a goal.

Jude Bolton?s goalkicking yips

(Surprisingly none of these players became fathers during the course of Grand Final Week, so I?m not at all sure what their excuse was).

Most of the players? performances during the first half in particular were deplorable. They took the field with a very uncertain mindset which was both contagious and difficult to shake. Too little was left to too few throughout the course of the game. No doubt Jolly had a shocker but he was far from alone.

Finally, hats off to the Eagles. They were seriously challenged and could so easily have wilted, yet they found just enough to hang on for victory. Maybe they were just slightly better on the day.

I admire any player that has come through the side, worn the jumper and had a crack. Jolly falls within this category and played a strong role in helping us to win a flag in ?05. I can understand the angst created by his departure to Collingwood but really the game has moved on from the 70s when club loyalty was more entrenched. Is his ?disloyalty? any greater than the club?s ?disloyalty? to Schneider, Dempster, Davis, Buchanan or even Hall? Losing Jolly has meant securing Jetta and forcing us to go hard and succeeding in snaring Mumford. Both players in my estimation will ultimately provide the club with greater value both individually and in combination. I think we?ve done very nicely out of this trade, and it really is time to embrace the future and move on.

Well the three club player now has two premierships with two clubs, with both won from his first year at both Syd and Collingwood. Quite a unique acheivement I imagine. He said in today's Age that he was getting on and he would cherish Saturday's premiership a 'lot more' than 05, he also said he intended "no disrespect to Sydney".

He lost his voice today at the Pies event (From memory I think the same thing happened at the SCG event in 05), I imagine keeping your wife updated every 2 minutes on all your movements by shouting into a mobile phone inside a busy night club would put a bit of strain on your voice.

We, as the 'non Collingwood' football community, can only hope his potential follow up Grand Final in 2011 is as painful and devastating as the follow up grand final he had with us.

This would have to be the first time that I can ever remember a player's wife being the focus of so much derision. Are there any facts to back up the image on here she is a manipulating, dominating ,intolerant Femme Fatale who was so inconsiderate to the Swans Premierships she coincided her babies birth with the 2006 GF just to get Darren's attention? I know we are in the silly season when watching a fly crawl up the wall becomes interesting but this seems all a bit rich to me.She sounds like a normal Australian girl to me. (which is why I live in Thailand!)

Well she didn't hide the fact that she wanted to go back to Melbourne and in the end the pitchfork up the khyber got Darren back there.

My ex father-in-law lives in Vietnam probably for the same reason you live in Thailand. I live on the Central Coast because I can't be far from my beloved Swans. I just have to play with my horse for the next six months to ease the pain of no Swans games.

Swapped and old nag for a much younger version. Problem is she can't give me a hug but then come to think of it neither did the other one.
