Very happy with that win.
The game turned when Goodesy was put in the midfield - WHERE HE BELONGS!!!Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

Funny ... two seconds before Jessie hit the post (I think in the first quarter), I picked it. I got a round of applause from the peeps!!Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

They must have forgotten Nick Smith was playing. Was superb all game. Bevo was ok but not in my best. Gees Mattner was very good too. Like most people I thought our disposal let us down a lot but the tackling and harassing in the last quater was first class. We as good as worried Essendon out of it.
Cheers

LEGS... I agree on McVeigh but I thought his last quarter was good. I don't think he is an option at all as a defensive sweeper as he is not hard enough and makes too many pressure mistakes. Far better to play him in the midfield and forward. Hanners had a very good last half and some of his close in handballs proved decisive. I thought as the game went on our midfielders improved and how much better are we with Goodes in the midfield. His ball handling when he went in there in the second was clean and what we needed. I would keep White and Reid up forward and play Goodes up there when he needs a rest, as he will certainly provide a goal or two and put mid game pressure on oppostion backs.Comment

Smith is not a very strong kick but boy he finds the footy and closes down opponents. Players don't seem to have any space when he plays on them. He was very good early when we were under the pump.Comment

Just back from the game and the voice is a little hoarse. A surprisingly (disappointingly?) small crowd, but that didn't take away from the noise level or atmosphere.
Lucky to get away with it in the end, but that showed the fight and spirit in the team.
As others have already said, we look a different team with Goodes running through the midfield - sure, let him rest in the forward line if you don't want to bench him, but he needs to spend the majority of his time in the midfield. Reid is very impressive in marking contests, a potential key forward for many years to come. Mummy was huge again, was actually surprised they didn't try to use Ryder more to run against him and wear him down. Bevo showed his best position is as a defensive small forward because he can take a mark and ick a goal, and his courage is undoubted to create a contest and pressure the opposition defenders, but at least there his mistakes aren't too costly. Jude and McGlynn were huge late and ROK was more consistent through the game than last week which was a good sign.
On the downside, McVeigh was very quiet - not sure if he had a shutdown role, but we definitely missed the good use of the ball he brings. Everitt was conspicuously absent for much of the game and I'd say he will struggle to hold his spot once Kennelly is fit to play. Jetta was very disappointing - fumbled, decision making was poor and just didn't seem to want to take on the opposition. His confidence just seems very low and a run in the 2s might not be a bad idea.
Will be interesting to see what kind of lineup we pick for a game at Subi next week - whether we try and matchup on their talls in the ruck, or just go for the extra running option...
I'm on the Chandwagon!!!
If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

That said, we were the better team at all the crunch moments and entirely objectively I declare us worthy winners. Fab effort from the defenders who gutsed it out all day - some of them will be sore boys, do hope we have at least one of Tadhg or LRT to lighten the load next week.
Brilliant game from Bolton - there may be a few of us who can sheepishly 'fess up to saying he might struggle for a game this season. The other seniors also more than held their own (tho like last week ROK's clanger count seemed awful). The youngsters OTOH seemed very nervous and very fumbly, even the normally unflappable Nick Smith. We looked leaderless at points there in the first half so it was great to see the old hands steady the ship, but if we're seriously to compete this year, need some of these young fellas to find their feet quickly.Comment

Well another heart stretching game from the Swans. Didn't play well but they never gave up and when the tide turned they were close enough.
- I have a serious man crush on Sam Reid. Hands like vice grips and presents well all over the ground. Where Jesse presents well but couldn't catch a cold in a freezer.
- I'm not a fan of Bevan but his incredible work rate in the forward line was sensational. Does that every week and he'll turn me around.
- Mummy and Goodes were the ones that stood up when the Dons threatened to steam roll us. Brilliant games
- Great pressure goal by Jude. Class effort.
- Umpires were terrible and gifted us some soft frees so we got lucky there.
Thank you to Wardy and ORB for putting up with me and thank you to the RWO faithful met at the pre game get together. Always good to put a face
to a name...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

I'm interested in the sub rule. Meredith came on around 5 minutes into the last term for bird. I wonder if there could be such a thing as a specialist sub. Obviously, the primary need is to cover for an injury, however, at three quarter time, the fresh legs are telling. Both Meredith and Lovett-Murray did well. What's needed is an explosive burst player. Some very knackered boys at the end of that game.
Agree that Hanners was all class. He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.Comment

How bad was it A) having to wait until 3pm for the telecast here & then B) having Channel 7 rub it with with highlights of that bloody Alessio game. Nearly threw the remote at the TV when they put that on!
