Pro Stats had him down for only three total as well, and they do theirs entirely independently from Champion Data.

Sitting behind the goals in the Noble gives a pretty good perception of flight for goal kicking and EVERY miss of Reid and Goodes was just a straight out shank. No suggestion that the ball was on target and grabbed by the wind on any of the kicks that I could see. As mentioned earlier, Richmond didn't appear to suffer.
      Yep.

      Yep

To me too many players have a far too casual attitude to goal kicking. Some are not even upset when they miss. Kicking straight is one of the fundamental skills of a good player.

I remember Graham Cornes commenting on Plugger attempting to kick a goal from the impossible pocket at Ami. None of the Crows could do it and were taught to pass to the centre from that pocket. To kick it you would have to hang the ball high up in front of the goals and have it drift back inside and drop quickly.. Almost impossible .Plugger kicked it! Cornes was gobsmacked! That level of skill requires dedication and constant practise. Our players often do not even have the kicking technique right let alone the rest. Coaches need to come up with remedies! These were ideas I have heard over the years!

1.Pick out a face in the crowd behind the goals and just kick the ball to him /her not worrying about the sticks. Just like warm up time.
      2. Imagine someone is leading to the middle of the goals and kick to that lead, ignoring the sticks again.
      3. Visualise the kick first and swing the leg once before the kick
      4. Concentrate on the follow through .If the follow through is correct the toes should be pointing to the middle of the goals and the kick will be straight if the ball was dropped correctly
5,Above all don't panic relax and avoid nervous jerky actions.Keep the run up smooth .Keep one hand on the ball until it touches the boot to avoid dropping it off centre.
6.Get the best kicks to coach the rest! LJ should be coaching Reid.!(and Goodes!!!)
7.Go with the natural action ,even if wrong (eg Buddy) and work around it rather than change it

Just a few of many ideas to improve goal kicking!
      You're hired!

Maybe it was a very off day in appalling conditions, but it has been a bad trend this year.
The tigers were desperate to win this one, as we will be to beat The Blues, who are full of confidence. Swans will have to play out of their skin to win.
The kid is 19 for heavens sake give him a break, Goodes on the other hand should be bloody ashamed of himself.

Reid was kicking goals in ressies last year. He is not as confident now. He needs assistance; and practice. He is 19.

I am moving Goodsey out of my dreamteam.

Why? Missing shots at the bar?

Right in front of the umpire as well. How they missed it I do not know.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

It was a clear trip. My young bloke was on it straight away. Stupid umpires.

Watching Reid on the replay last night and his right foot looks rather pidgeon toed. Now that might be drawing a long bow, but he does seem to drag his foot across his body and the ball just doesn't hit the foot right. Also looks like he gets close to the man on the mark.

They need to bring Davo in to work with big Sam.

Great Idea. His kicking is a chink in the armour and Davo was one of the best kicks I have seen, just behind Plugger of course! I don't think age matters that much, a bad kicker is a bad kicker whether you have a Brownlow or not.

Reidy was number two? in the draft camp for accuracy .....................Rohan was number 1 year before.............not sure if that means much but Dustin Martin competed against Reidy .............Im sure Sam will turn it around !

When it comes to goal kicking he absolutely is the role model we're looking for, and I'd say he'd be the role model for any young footballer when it comes to goal kicking. Nick had a phenomenal amount of natural talent obviously, and he grew up with an excellent coach to show him how to kick (who makes a bob now from teaching talented young things to kick)- but for all the questioning people might have given to his willingness to run laps you could never question his willingness to practice, practice and practice again his goal kicking. When Stella junior was little we got along to quite a few training sessions (he loved it) and I can assure you that whilst other guys were starting to warm down it was common to see Davo with a bag of footys practicing his set shots.

Take a look at LRT's field kicking now, then cast your mind back to what it was like when he first started out. Davo worked with him on it.

Do modern player management strategies in terms of training loads etc cuts goal kicking practice first? I've only been to watch training once but don't recall any goal kicking practice.
Agree with Stella - get the boys back to the academy under Davo's tutelage.

All you guys calling for kicking coaches and kicking practice until their feet bleed need to get it in your head ..... it's all in their head.

Put the big sticks in front of them and the pressure of a game situation and off goes their head and on goes a pumpkin. It's been happening for 100+ years and will happen for the next 100.
