    Not in good form, but to say he cannot play, well..........stick to undressed firearms Sergeant......

      Anyway, Bird's form has been a little down on the middle of the season, but he's playing a defensive role, and doing it well. He's our number 1 tagger, and he's barely able to train during the week because of his foot, yet he's still out there every week performing his role.

      Terrible, terrible thread.
      This^

      Obviously he is filling a tagging role whilst he is hampered.

      Who is coming in to tag and do his role? He is selfless disciplined and carrying something.

      Ease off.

        Playing with infected giblets. That's the gossip from the nest.

        Should retain his pecking order for next week as he has been assigned to tag Fisher.

          So Bird just took Black out of the game and he's had a shocker? When Kirk was that effective everyone was singing his praises. Maybe we should line up Nick Smith next - he just seems to cruise around the backline without kicking many goals?

            Jack looked to be on Black, Shaw/McGlynn on Rich - I don't know who Bird played on.
            The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

              Bird spent a bit of time on both. Jack vs Black was the primary matchup, as was McGlynn on Rich, but I'm fairly sure Bird spent a few 5 or 10 minute patches on both, as well as others (spotted him on Rockliff and Redden at times). The last couple of weeks he hasn't been entrusted with primary tagging duties, maybe because he's carrying something, but he's rotated on to players others have tagged and spent the rest of the time resting as a defensive forward, and Saturday was no different.
              Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

                    Taggers don't get possessions, they effectively stop the player their on from getting it. If this was a stat, he would be highly rated. Watch who he plays on during the game then count their stats... I'm happy that he is doing his job.

                      Bugger! AFL Insider are saying that Fisher will probably run with Goodes on Saturday night.

                      This could leave Bird out on a wing and a prayer and many here are saying that he doesn't have the drumsticks to out run a cat.

                      But out run a Cat he did, just two weeks ago and will be primed this week when he shows that he is no holy dove and brings down a Saint.

                        In 1999 that was acceptable, but not in today's footy. Who are the noted taggers getting no possessions?

                          Clinton Jones, StK number 1 stopper comparison, when you consider the age difference and that Craig has played injured and been subbed he holds up.

                          or you could compare Steve Baker

                            Fare call - however I still consider he is doing a job!

                              Will get the job on Dal Santo this week I think. Did a decent job last time on him too IIRC.

                              Reckon it will be like this for the smalls:

                              Bird --> Dal Santo
                              McGlynn --> Montagna
                              Jack <--> Jones (will probably just negate each other like they did at ANZ)
                              Smith --> Milne
                              Shaw --> Schneider

                              Goddard is the interesting one. ROK did a good job with him last time and his shoulder is apparently fine, so I expect him to get the gig.

                                Clinton Jones is a good stopper whose possessions are telling - and Steven Baker was exactly the person I was thinking of when I posted the original post.

                                Bird is a good footballer, but I can see him being the one to make way if Jed Lamb, Tom Mitchell etc come on as expected.

                                He is a good average footballer. Plenty of good, average footballers don't play in premierships - @@@@ happens.
