Reg not playing again this season? Is this 100% confirmed or are they still looking at him week by week? Glandular fever is a bad one but a couple of week's total rest for a super fit athlete can make recovery much quicker than your average person.
The fact we don't need him should take the pressure off his recovery which could also help him recover quicker.Comment

I suspect he has been been up and down with this for a while now and it has only now just been diagnosed. He did train last Thursday but felt lethargic and didn't come up, but if he trained well this week and felt OK, he could well be named. No skin off anybody's nose to have a fresh standby if he feels no good at the 11th hour.
That said, hard to know who'd they drop for him. Kennelly is the obvious one but it looks like his papers are marked for the fairytail finish.Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

Do we have enough depth to rest Hannebery and Rohan this weeK? Especially Rohan. I can't help thinking that knee of his might benefit with extra recovery time.Comment

Meredith. Jetta or Gordon could replace them, but none are to the same standard as those 2.Comment

Hell no to resting players. Rohan sounds like he's fine to play, if he is he plays. Hanners still sounds 50/50 but if he's deemed fit, he plays too.
If they're not fit, they don't play. Can't take injured players in to a final. But if they're deemed fit enough to play adequately, they should be playing.Comment

there is no way we could rest rohan. I cant help but think he has been the catalyst for turning this side around with the level of pressure he puts on opponents. At the MCG he will (provided he is right) be asbolutely critical as a way of stopping the hawks from playing keepings off for 15 minutes a quarter.
I reckon both of these two are critical cogs in this side - I'd so love jetta to play and have a break out game as well. That wont happen i dont think (for two reasons - the most likely being he wont get a start) but for our side to win we will absolutely need every midfielder to lift again and again and again. The hawks midfield eats the saints for breakfast and they crushed us at the scg (even if those w#$%ers at 7 wouldn't show the game live)Comment

Resting players? Geez, supporters clearly getting ahead of themselves here. These are do or die finals guys not even the top sides have that luxury and nor would they be arrogant enough to think they do.
Hawthorn with or without Buddy will be the most difficult test of the year. If we do miraculously beat them, anything seems possible, but my head says we're going to get a reality check. I really hope we win, but we might just lost by 30+.
Whatever happens, I will be happy with the season. The amount of youngsters we've blooded will set us up well for the future.Comment

I think Cheer Squad's suggestion was more aimed at resting Rooster if his knee isn't well, not just a standard resting of a young guy after a few games; I think it's reasonable to ponder given his biggest strengths are his attack on the ball and his speed (both of which could take a hit from a sore knee).
I want him to play regardless, I don't think it's likely to be problem enough to justify not playing him- but I don't think it was that crazy a thing to ponder.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

weve been resting (on the field) old Kennelly for a season I ........am sure we can rest Rohan and Hannes on the field
the only issue is if one or two come off injured and dont return you are stuffed in modern day football
roll the dice Horse !!"be tough, only when it gets tough"
