So CAJ is that because he traded LJ who had played 2 senior matches in his 3 years at the club and in both games looked like a deer in headlights and around the club was not prepared to put in the hard yards or follow the instructions of the coaching staff. its not longmire who runs our list managment...its Kinnear Beatson...and swans have a reputation far greater than any club at trade time..sure you might get duds every club does, but we have a far better record than most...so your criticism of Longmire is short sighted IMO

A list mangement decision was made that it was more in our interest to trade and get a pick then it was to keep LJ on the list, if he lived up to his promise and put an effort in he would never of been traded. The bottomline is while LJ has potenial he never lived up to it.

Well I'm not sure about letting AJ go but I have great faith in the recruiting dept to select winners so I'm sure Armstrong will be a good trade.

Be very interesting to see what we do on Mad Monday. The pressure is right on St.Kilda to ease their salary cap woes and so far they've done bugger all to move players out. They won't want to be forced into a last minute fire sale on Monday so there is still hope we can get Tommy Walsh if he is our target.

I just get a sneaking suspicion that Fev may be a Swan by 2pm Monday as well.

If we don't pick up any more players it seems we'll have four picks at the National Draft so at least a couple of players will be delisted.

Last Monday, Swans told ADE, LJ was not on the table.
Last Wednesday, Tommy Walsh signed up with a new player agent (who also manages Tadhg & Pykey)
Last Thursday, LJ is back on the table.

Something is definitely afoot.....and something good!

aj has shown promise whereas lj only has potential-no one really knew who he was till this trade. that's why they get mixed up. mind u we all know lj he was a 1st round pick now. nevertheless i too would have liked an earlier pick from adelaide. i'm with walsh- the pick will go to saints for walsh and feb will join us through the preseason draft.

lj may well have wanted to go to adelaide in any case, isn't he from there

I agree with this part of your thoughts. Why we traded away a 1st round forward with huge upside, for an uncontracted fringe player, who wanted to come to Sydney anyway, is perplexing.
GWS weren't interested in him.
All we had to do was sit back and wait for him to come to us via the PSD.....for nothing.
If we loose Sam Reid to GWS next year we'll have no up and coming forwards.
We can only hope they have stitched up Walsh as a forward replacement.....And possibly Fev (can't believe I'm saying this) for short term help.

A total of 48 pages of ..... ....... As far as Heart and Home is concerned, both clubs have a win/win. We also have a F/S. We also have a much earlier pick. Umm. I would rather trust the thoughts of the professional swans blokes who go out around the country watching said players in competition during the season than this mob of R&Wers who are by and large going on personal preferences and expections, but not exactly travelling the countryside on the prowl.

We haven't done too badly over the last few years. I expect we have a group of blokes in the box who are not exactly stupid. We also played in two finals matches with a first year coach. We exposed and blooded a goodly number of kids who have good heads on their shoulders, and who can play. It seems to me that "they" know more than "we" do.

I'm over it. Bring on 2012......I'll let you know if I rate the blokes at training. Only 3 months to go......

I think you are correct, there is an enormous amount of revisionism that trakes place on this site. LJ has gone from being the great white hope, to 'thank god he's gone' in an amazingly short time.

The reason we grabbed him with a first round draft pick was because eky marking forewards are as rare as hens teath. And he apparently took the highest number of contested marks in the state carnival. Now he may never live up to that potential, but I don't see how that decision could be made when the kid has only just turned 20!!! (Jesse White is 3 years older and apparently we haven't given up on him). Now while I watch the ressies, and was yest to see his contested marking genius, I would remind you all of that metre goal he kicked against North (I think). Given that almost none of our players can kick accurately for goal (and certainly not from outside the 50) I am dismayed that he's been traded. I think we may have ScottSevens'ed ourselves big time.

But the deal has been done and Armstrong may well prove to be a colossal success, after all we have a history of turning sows ears into silk purses. Atb the time the Ted Richards deal was a rip off (although not as bad as the Chambers fiasco) but over time that deal has looked better and better. Perhaps this one will too????

Lets leave aside pick 35, that may in fact be of negligable value in what is allegedly a thin draft. And concentrate on what we have.

On past performance Armstrong is a quick running half back with good kicking skills (basically a replacement for Tadgh). He may well become an brilliant outside midfielder, but at this stage that's just spin, there's no real evidance that such a transformation is on the cards. And as he's a couple of years older than AJ, discussing his potential while criticising AJ for not living up to his seems hypocritical. Two last things: He may well have got over his problem with drink, but having had one it surely not a point in his favour. And as for the NSW boy wanting to return home BS, gimme a break!! His home was much closer to Melbourne than Sydney.

To sum up: I hope he does well, I shall cheer for him. I hope he can be tranformed like so many other recruits from other clubs, but don't piss on me and tell me it's raining. I'm sick of it. I sometimes wonder why the club pumps out so much transparently threadbare spin . . . . until I am confronted by the evidence that some people actually believe it. Sad

What concerns me about the Armstrong trade is this... when i look at the BF Adelaide site, all the contributors are super happy to be getting LJ in this trade. No one seems regretful that they got rid of Armstrong to get him... The contributors all basically feel they got a steal of a trade and can't believe sydney agreed to it... that's troubling.... I went on the site hoping to find heaps of praise about Armstrong and people being annoyed he's leaving (like posts on here about LJ)... not the case.

Remember getting a hard time in the game day thread for saying LJ wasn't all that and that I was unimpressed.

So I for one am not gnashing any teeth seeing him leave.

Don't know jack about Armstrong thought so this could end up a lousy deal but don't think we're missing out on much with LJ leaving.

I never realised that Adelaide supporters were so intelligent and more so than our own Football Dept who (over the last 5 years at least) have done some incredible trading.

If they traded Lj, Aj or BJ, it is because they had a very good reason to do so.

Swans finished 6th on the ladder this year. We lost the FF and FB at the start of the season and blooded lots of youngsters. However, thre are still those who want to sack Longmire because the Club dumped a 20 year old. Lots of stars in the reserves and he couldn't even do that. Just showed glimpses of potential.
