From this limited view of Armstrong (and i am aware it is 3 mins of highlights), he looks like a Lewis Jetta that can kick and make reasonable decisions. (not the worst combination)
Starting to feel a little better about this trade by the minute.
The only game I saw LJ in live was the vs. Collingwood in the NAB cup at the start of this year. I did not rate him that highly. My concern is that he is an awkward size - lacked the size and strength to hold his own in marking contests and did not have the leg speed to be a flanker. He could well develop into an effective third tall, but I am far from sold.
Nonetheless, the trade seems idiotic at first glance, but if we are able to use that second rounder to draft Walsh St Kilda, then I see it as a having merit. There has to be some sort of plan in there. Will be interesting to see how it unfolds on Monday.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.
That's what I was thinking. We have another trick up our sleeve now.
Maybe we can get one of those Saints now...
Yep i suggested earlier in the thread getting the mid 30s pic from Adelaide was key for many reasons
i) for trading with Saints for Tommy Walsh or other clubs...........given our midfield depth and backline and given we are 2012 or 2013 going to peak in my humble opinion (ie Goodes, Bolts and Rok ageing but still gold right now) I suspect that Walsh is worth the risk with Jesse and Sammy. We also saw how key Goodes on the wing is for us mid season to finals !...........you would also expect that we must be attracting a forward when letting LJ go !
ii) maybe we eyed off a player we expect to be mid 30's that we like a lot !
iii) LJ was not really an option for us on the park with our best 22 - Teddy and AJ have changed our whole backline flexibility in 2011 but also Shaw in the midfield has been lovely in shut down roles when needed and given Kennelly needs to be covered by a genuine HBF........... and Mal is struggling and Rohan is no doubt desired to be on the wing but not at HBF and more at HFF where possible I think that Armstrong deal gives us great options for the top 22 players week to week

Not sure what time this story went up. Mentions Armstrong/Johnston trade negotiation.
Walsh has had medical with the Swans.
Apparently jig is to the Swans standard.
I hope we don't trade pick 35 to that idiot Pilchard. Just let him go through to pre-season draft.
You mean the pre-season draft where Melbourne will get him before we do. Great idea... I'm comfortable with trading pick 35, but that idiot Pelchen will be his usual petulant self. I don't think the trade will eventuate even though i desperately want him.
Im dissapointed to lose LJ, but the first 3 mins of this clip make me feel slightly better. (Note he is taking the kickouts, and barely misses a target)
Good find. I'm not sure if it's just the amazing power of white, but he looks to be pretty physically solid.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
Can we have the two threads about trades etc merged?
I thought the other thread was for Swans only news and this one was a more general trade week thread that included other Clubs and might advertantly include trades that affected the Swans.
I'm guessing though.
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.
