    ie.
    No victory=no hair cut
I'm not sure that's the best ancient parrallel for "The Bloods" - I would have though the workmanlike citizen crews of the Athenian trireme's would be a more appropriate.

Maybe, the Athenians tended to be individualistic and multi-talented but often subject to the rule of demigogues who won the mass vote with oration and promises but ended up stuffing up the State( Shades of Julia?) by overextending their resources(Pericles, Alcibiades). The Spartans were a killing machine who only knew one thing:being a soldier who could win at all costs and working as a team where you relied on your buddy's shield. They didn't change their defensive formula for centuries. Nice analogy I'd say!

In that case I guess St Kilda are the Romans. Very well drilled on the field but eventually undermined by the generals plotting against each other. Almost conquered everywhere but could never really get past the Huns. And what Thomas and the senate did to Blight in the forum bears remembering.

Yes not until Philip of Macadonia was beating them in the field and then Alexander finally conquered them and the rest of the Grecian States and subjugated the lot. Talk about team work that fella could win against the odds, sometimes as much as ten to one. Now that takes team work.

What a terrible analogy. The the Swans are nothing like the Spartans.

In Sparta, if you weren't born into the elite 5% of the population you would never be given a chance to rise on your merits.
At Sydney many of our highest achievers never seem to come from well outside the top 5% of the draft. Let's face it Adam Goodes, Sam Reid and Brett Kirk were all from the AFL drafts equivalent of the Helot class.

In Sparta outsiders and foreigners were never accepted into the society.
At Sydney we regularly allow and encourage outsiders to join the bloods brotherhood. Josh Kennedy, Shane Mumford, Teddy Richards could never become Spartans.

The Spartans were a bunch of parasitic, work shy long haired sociopaths. Thermopalae wasn't their greatest triumph, it was their ability to keep 95% of the ?blue=collar? part of the population enslaved.
Sydney?s 2005 premiership was the work of a team frequently described by the Swans Strategos of the time (the publicly elected Paul Roosicles) as fundamentally ?blue=collar?

            PS
The things we do on this site when the Swans have a bye, it's unblievable LOL

Perhaps the Swanswiki history page needs to be updated to accomodate these important archaeological finds, our club is far older than first thought.

Maybe we can ask Kenny and his harem what it was like back then.

Amazing discovery and sheds light on the origin of Bloods folklore and Swans ethos.Thank goodness we don't have to fill in another week waiting for a game but it has actually been a lot of fun. So many ROW's know their ancient history ,dare we go to Delphi and ask the question"Will we win the premiership this year?" Can you imagine the cryptic answer? What's your take on this Ruckn roll? "Hide behind your wooden walls and defensive press! When the Reid sours the morrow brings victory"
