GWS Giants veteran James McDonald will be out for just two weeks for a dangerous hit on Swan Luke Parker which left the midfielder with a fractured jaw.
Giants football manager Graeme Allan confirmed last night GWS would take the early guilty plea and accept a two-match ban for McDonald's front-on bump on Parker.
But it is the Swans who have been dealt the greater punishment with their 19-year-old rising star set to miss up to three weeks of football.
The incident during the first quarter of Saturday's season-opener at ANZ Stadium will only intensify the bad blood between Sydney's newest rivals after Parker was left motionless on the turf, needing several minutes on the sidelines to recover.Comment

Scott you really want to have a good look at it again. McDonald lined Parker up and had absolutely no intention of going for the ball. The ball had already past by the time McDonald even gets near Parker, he could have pulled out but chose to go for the hit. Parker now has a hairline fracture to the jaw that was the result of an upraised elbow or forearm. Not sure which actually hit him but McDonald raises the arm as he is about to collect Luke.
This stinks of a Sheedy HIT! Luke was too dangerous and Sheeds told McDonald to clean him up, simple! The guy by rights should get 10 weeks for that hit!Theres not much left to sayComment

In saying that GWS is starting to remind of the Sheedy coached Essendon sides I hated throughout the 90's already.
For a while there I was waiting for James Hird, Matthew Lloyd, Scott Lucas and Dustin Fletcher to make an appearance for GWS the way the Giants were playing.Comment

Even if he did intend to bump (and I don't think he did) then so what. If the ball is within 5 metres it's game on. Agree. There is a difference between hard play and mongrel acts. McDonald actually runs in the opposite direction to the ball and he is looking at Luke all the time. I watched the footage very closely. He lined Luke up and took him out off the ball as the ball had passed Luke by then. McDonald at no time even looked at the ball his only focus was Luke. That used to be at least 5 matches even in the old days that so many on the Herrald Sun Footy site are pining for. I thought the tactic more like the stuff Billy Duckworth used to do circa 1985.Comment

Oh please, they're comparing a split moment decision to bump that crept high to a guy running off the square to target a player.
