Unfortunately Goodes led with his knees when Surjan had got to the footy earlier. Was never going to win the footy, and just like the NAB Cup one, IMO is just a lazy avoidance of actually making a tackle. Could have easily kept his feet, let Surjan slide into the footy and wrap him up aiming for HTB.
Fact of the matter is if we suspend blokes for this then our game is a laughing stock. I've had a couple of NRL mates at work pissing themselves laughing that something like this can get scrutinized let alone suspended for. One said just show this vision out Penrith way and it'll be game, set and match to the NRL...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

Lastly I find it dreadful that the media is after him with the pitchfork. A lot of them as speaking about this sort of thing being a part of his game, trying to imply he's a bit of a dirty player, which is a profoundly disrespectful thing to say about a man of Adam's character. He's a bit of whinerand can get frustrated, but he's not the sort of person who is out there to deliberately hurt others. Clearly not seeing as he apologised straight away.
On OTT they touched very briefly on whether Goodes was being picked on in this instance, with Gerald or Mike asking the question of whether any other player would even have been looked at for this incident. However, because the entire FF programming last night was completely obsessed with analysing whether the Pies are in meltdown, at the expense of almost anything else that happened over the weeked, they had only allocated about 10 seconds to mentioning each of the other clubs and hence the question was left hanging.
On the one hand, the media seems to acknowledge his playing career, and marvels about how he is still playing at the level he is despite having played over 300 games. They also acknowledge his off-field work as an ambassador / mentor within the indigenous community. Yet there seems to be a coterie of media commentators who appear to hold some deep felt grudge against him, such that whenever he does something slightly clumsy (in the course of a frantically paced game, and always in contests), his motives and character get questionned in a manner almost no other player is subjected to.Comment

Agree he deserves a week for stupidity - this is becoming like the glancing bumps he was getting cited for a couple of years ago. Meaningless, lazy contact that he keeps repeating and won't learn from. He got a reprimand in the NAB Cup and then goes and does it again.
It's just incredibly frustrating that for the bruise-free player he is, he gets multiple suspensions (including those he was able to turn into reprimands) for incidents that barely inconvenience the victim. And worse he adds to his poor record which will really hurt if he clumsily does something similar again.
I'd be staggered if we appealed, I can't see on what basis - which of the following would we be disputing: negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point)?
Not intentionally dangerous, just a stupidly dumb act!!Comment

Very fair assessment. I have often wondered why a player from behind can knee the player in front out of the way. I guess it's all about the eyes on the ball, and catching it. It's a timing thing!Comment

Stupid might also be where a player stays on his feet to approach a contest, knowing that there is a strong likelihood an opponent will have got down low and almost guaranteed a collision of legs or body to the head (and a 2-3 week suspension).
Stupid might be not going for the ball at all, and risking the media lambasting the said player for being soft, or a squib.
But going in to a contest low in such a way that the force of the collision to to another player's legs with minimal impact (as adjudged by the MRP), far less force than 80% of the collisions we see in pretty much every game, where you arrive at the ball a split second later than an opponent, that is stupid? Only if you are Adam Goodes, it appears.Comment

He's a repeat offender, the AFL will set an example with him.
If it was a player from any other them I doubt there would be any debate at all.
Cop the week and move on (and change this part of your game)The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

I honestly just don't understand what it's all over- I agree that knees into a player can be dangerous, but this is very different from a player coming to a contest and dropping his knees in. It's common to see a player slide into position when an opponent has gone to ground with the ball, in the hope of being able to tangle them up in a tackle or win the ball themselves. I don't think Goodes was trying to make him "earn it" in the slightest.
In the Giants vs. Eagles game that was an incident where Brogan gave away a free kick (it was a late call, from memory) for dropping his knees in a contest- it was a pretty soft call, but in the ensuing tangle of limbs Brogan clearly swung his elbow into the chest of the Eagles player. The MRP didn't even assess it- I don't think he should have been pinged for it, but I see no logic in that not even being reviewed whilst Goodes is both reviewed and found guilty of foul play.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

I thought it was strange how the report itself didn't seem to happen until much later in the game, well after the next break IIRC. It's like the umpires didn't necessarily deem it reportable until they heard all the harping on about it from the Fox commentators. To all those people who waited 72 years to see a South Melbourne/Sydney Swans premiership HERE IT IS!!Comment

I dunno, just disappointed I guess. I'm am echoing the sentiment that there seems to be an element in sports media that may rate & respect Adam, but not necessarily like him. It's also a dig at the commentators of that match, who were dreadful IMO.
However, perhaps all is not lost: Tribunal contest is only hope for GoodesTo all those people who waited 72 years to see a South Melbourne/Sydney Swans premiership HERE IT IS!!Comment
