The ball was in dispute, both players slid in, but because Goodes didn't come up with the ball, he was punished. Just doesn't make logical sense.

I am so disappointed that we won't be able to honour Adam on Sunday at the SCG. According to a press report tonight "The Swans were preparing to fly the dual Brownlow Medal winner's family to Sydney for the historic game against North Melbourne." I hope they now wait until the night match at SCG on 5 May to celebrate Goodes.

Different incidents Liz. They are talking the 'pressure point/eye gouge' incident v Brisbane, not the errant elbow v Freo...

          There goes my Charlie.

I'm going back to the foetal position now.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

The good old insufficient force is the get out of jail card for some players. A bit like attempting to strike; the old lesser offence. That elbow on Pavlich was there for the world to see. Probably the most bewildering decision by a jury that I can recall.

Talking of elbows to the head, how did JPod get away with one on Sunday, without it even being looked at by the MRP??

It was pretty clear on TV, then the commentators somehow managed to @@@@ it up and completely miss the flying elbow, taking young Harper to task for remonstrating with JPod 'for no reason' when the replay started from when Harper retaliated, seconds after copping an elbow...

Oh well at least now opposition fans can't boo him and call him protected. If anything they should focus their energy on Judd who got off and won the charlie after trying to blind someone.
I remember the bad old days. and I can't recall anyone being seriously injured by someone sliding ON their knees. Strewth on the very wet grounds of days gone by sliding on your knees was pretty common. The worst offence was always deliberately kicking someone. I have played the game and watched it for 50 years and I don't recall sliding on your knees as a thuggish act. Dropping the knees into someone on the ground is the thuggish act and that hasn't stopped. It happens at many stoppages.

If we want to carry on about this business of using the knees then lets take it out of marking contests. More players have been badly injured over the years in this way. IIRC Sam Newman lost a kidney in this way and in more recent times Tom Lonergan. On a weekly basis you see players holding their backs after a player "gets a ride" on their backs.

I tweeted FoxFooty and asked them to get David King's assessment of Goodes' act of sliding. Not surprisingly, they haven't asked him yet...

Yeah , so unfair , if only they'd looked at it from a 37.5 degree angle on that fortieth slow-mo replay , yada yada yada.

Prior to being formally wiped out , Goodes - though he had done some great things in all three games - was hardly in Brownlow form.
And if we are to be considered a serious threat , then we should be able to cope with the loss of one player , however brilliant.

The folks I feel sorry for , are the travelling North fans ,who miss out on seeing him play (I recall being disappointed at not seeing Cyril Rioli play up here a couple of seasons back , due to a suspension).

So , Gooodsey's replacement - grab your chance and play your guts out !

Spot on. He was the first person I thought of when Goodesy got reported.

There's a bit of support for Goodes. Crawf says Goodes had no other choice.

I thought O'Brien's was a dropping of the knees.
