I thought he was only 27 but he'll be 29 when he gets here - unless they are trying to plus a specific hole it wouldn't really make sense at that age.

So did I. Fair point, probably a year or two too old.

I don't follow the VFL closely enough to know how he polled in the Liston. How much of it do you watch? He played 15 games for Melbourne so he didn't have a poor 'year' in the VFL. What I do know is that he wouldn't be the number one midfielder at our club. You bang on about how bad we are out of the centre - here's a bloke who can help that.

I'm not saying he's a star but midfield depth is what it's all about these days and I think he could potentially help us in that area.
And I am guessing you have watched his centre clearance work closely. Can't have been real flash given the Dees stellar year, not.

Im really not sure of the substance of Brownlow votes to judge a players ability. (The Dumpires give the votes remember).

That said Brent Moloney would be good depth, possibly a really handy explosive clearance, goal kicking mid. His work with Jamar was very very good.

Goddard on the other hand would be more than handy, and if he does leave St Kilda then i think we would be a really good fit. We could even reinvent him as a forward which could/may be quite appealing to him, and could be that forward we lack.

          I love trade talk.

IMO, this smells like a classic Coach Eade, quick fix, top up solution...That inevitably leaves the club worse off in the long run....

No thanks to either of them.

Swans should stick to what they do best...Filling holes with unsung, unfashionable, periphery types.

Our midfield is good, but it's not that good. We have some good young prospects coming through, but Jude and ROK are on the wrong side of 30. Our window, so to speak, is open, but realistically maybe next year is our last genuine shot with Goodes, Richards, Jude, ROK still able to play together and play reasonably well.

If we do get Maloney we won't have to give anything up for him on the trade table. It's a financial investment, but it doesn't compromise our 'future'. If he's willing and the coaches believe he can strengthen our midfield I'm all for it. A tall, quality forward is the first hole needed to be filled, but another midfielder could be worth it.

Oh and this year we've seen Jude occupy the forward line and ROK used as a spare defender. Maloney at his best form would do a better job than some of our second string mids, no? Be it adding depth, a touch of class or increased midfield support he isn't a bad risk to take.

A Demon-supporting friend of mine whose opinion I respect, despite the apparent contradiction in those first two clauses, reckons that Maloney has lost a lot of speed. We all know he didn't have a good year and didn't look like he was putting in but that can be fixed. The speed thing probably can't.

I agree he should have to wear long sleeves if he plays for us.

When we played Melbourne in Sydney he looked totally disinterested. As slow as a wet weak and trotted around the ground. Above the shoulders may be an issue.

Maloney = older version of Parker

I'd rather just stick to developing the younger version.

Bit of an oxymoron there. Obviously he's an idiot supporting Melbourne, but you value his opinion?
