I thought I better chime in with my experience.
I caught the bus over on Friday night from Adelaide and arrived at around 7.30am. This first thing I did was walk to the MCG and began to soak it all in. Entry of people into the MCC was in full swing and there were already a number of people scattered around the ground.
After a full walk around the 'G, I met up with my friend who I was taking to her first Grand Final (this would be my 7th Grand Final experience, the first being in '05). We went out and had brunch, during which time the nerves started to kick in. We then made our way to the 'G at around midday, arriving to a sea of colours.
A light shower greeted us on the way in before we moved to our seats in row H in bay M9. We initially had seats towards the back of top deck but scored these better seats on the Friday. Winning!
The 90 or so minutes before game time seemed to take ages but then the moment arrived. The roar at the end of the National Anthem always sends shivers down my spine.
The game was such a rollercoaster ride (what you come to expect from the Swans). That 2nd quarter was simply flawless. The best quarter I have seen the Swans play all year. The 3rd was a complete contrast and I began to worry that the Hawks would run away with it. The roar when Buddy kicked a couple from long range was deafening. Luckily McVeigh was able to steady the ship towards the end of the 3rd.
The Hawks kicked two early goals in the last and I began to lose hope. But as the Swans have done previously, they just fight and fight and fight. ROK, Hanners, LRT, Teddy, Jetta, Johnson, Morton...all contributed. Goodes...what can you say? Absolute legend. Egg in face for me as I had written him off after the loss to the Pies in Round 20. I was unaware of the extent of his injury until after the game. To contribute the way he did with that sort of injury is something that will be looked upon forever.
The noise when Jetta took that mark towards the end and obviously Mal's goal sent the Swans fans into overdrive. The siren was the biggest relief ever and I just exploded with excitement.
Swans 2012 Premiers!
Here are a few pics I took. mcs: you must have been in the same bay as me?
