Tippett!!

Hey Roy, I think the misgivings you are feeling over the Tippett deal has a lot to do with the tirade of abuse from Crows fans and some officials toward him and the fact that this saga is dragging on and on.
As a big fan of Tippett for a while now I have followed his career pretty closely and I reckon I can put your mind to rest on a few of the issues you raised.
To the best of my knowledge he has never actually said that he wanted to go home, he has always said that he wanted out of the fishbowl that is the world of an AFL footballer in Adelaide. The "Go Home" was an assumption made by the AFC.
He said four years ago before he signed his last contract that he wanted out of Adelaide, he said it again last year when he still had a year to run on his contract - and that's when the bright sparks at the AFC should have traded him.
He was offered the biggest contract in the AFC's history to stay on at Westlakes, so it is not simply a money thing and the shocking (and very unfair) bagging of him since he told them he definately wanted to be traded is sour grapes and nothing more.
He was very poor against us, no defending that one, but if you watch their prelim against The Hawks you'll see just what he can bring to our club.
' but still thought Tippett could have shown more spirit.

Jetta to WCE for Lynch Compo pick (about 40);
Swans pick 22 to Adelaide for Tippett
Stevens to Adelaide for pick 22
Stevens worth a first rounder but Jetta only worth a second rounder"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

I wish we were. We really need another topic. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

Tippet has concussion issues & I think people forget that. If gets concussed once or twice next year, he may have to retire so drafting him is a risk that devalues his price. If he doesn't he'll be a gun but there is no certainty here. I think the Crows know this too. Jessie White & a 2nd round pick may get this deal down (or maybe Swans 1st round one in return for Adelaides 2nd round pick)2005 will live forever (or until we win another premiership)

Someone like Campbell Heath might also be upgraded as well.

Tippett?
Joel Selwood gets concussed every week, there's no speculation about his career ending anytime soon. Jude would have his fair share too.Comment

Look folks, this may not be logical, maybe not even rational, but I don't feel quite right about this Tippett deal.
There is an under current about it that leaves me with a bit of nagging doubt.
The initial suggestion that he wanted to go home to Qld.
The rather prompt turnaround that we would be even better than home, I assume cos of more $$$$.
The turnaround by AFC on his worth to the club..way they now talk, they feel better off without him?
The poor performance he put up against us in the final.
Someone tell me that it'll all be right on the night..as soon as I see him take a big one at the SCG and win a game for us that all will settle in my mind.
Someone tell me.
I don't see it as disloyal at all. He wasn't happy where he was and he got a better offer. What's the problem Adelaide fans (!!!! :-))
Same as Barry Hall
As far as I can tell he was happy at the club, happy with his team-mates and happy with the coach...just hated living there and said "you know what, I don't actually HAVE to live here, I have other options.""I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment
