Fully agree with you Al. This club has proven itself over the past 15 years as premiers in the trade stakes. You would think our members would have enough faith in our recruitment approach get this deal done and protect our premiership players. Dear me.

I have faith in our recruiters.
But I also understand that we will do deals which may involve losing premiership players.
Perhaps some will go for good reasons.
    This happens every year.
I hated that we dropped Hall like we did, but I accepted it and moved on for the greater good.

Tippet is for the greater good, and we may lose players along the way.
Personally, I'd hate to see Kennedy, Parker and many otehr players go, but if it happens, then so be it.

Rare for a player to really want to leave and then find themselves with no choice to stay - ROK must have found it a bit awkward slotting back in for a while.

I'd like to capitalise on winning the flag and attract players who are better than the ones we lose.
Players accept this as a part of the game (or their job)
Fans build hero worship kind of bonds with players and seem to be the ones who struggle to deal with players moving more than the clubs and the players themselves.

Just wondering, if swans can't reach a deal with Adelaide, it might be possible to trade with GWS for the 1st PSD pick

Slightly off topic but BF is a bit of a flog! A lot of angry posters there in general. I know we're not exactly bows and curtseys here either, but posters spend more time talking about stuff rather than calling each other names.

Depending on how hard tippet plays it, the crows may not have much say. They either get something from us, or he goes to the draft and ends up in NSW or QLD anyway, and crows get nothing

Yep, the thing I do like is that if Adelaide don't accept our trade they'll be the ones losing out if he goes into the PSD and ends up at GC who Tippett wouldn't mind ending up at anyway. Something is better than nothing and I take it that we won't be budging on what we deem is a fair deal.

There won't be any skin off our nose if they won't hand him over - we did win the premiership without him.

Given we have just won a flag and look likely to be at the pointy end for a few more years, don't be surprised if Adelaide, who rightly think they are also in that Premiership window, decide to let him go into the draft and receive nothing.

The ultimate kick in the teeth would be a Tippett led Sydney going back to back and knocking out Adelaide along the way. I doubt they would see GWS or the Suns as a similar threat.

If the boot was on the other foot, I'd be quite happy to see the Swans stand strong and firm and let him walk to the draft and get nothing, rather than trade him to a legitimate rival for a sandshoe and a galosha as has been suggested (Jesse and Pick 40 something).

There is an article in today's (Sunday) online SMH (sorry, I can't seem to paste the link) which says ...

                  1. The rumoured 2nd round draft pick is not a contract clause
                  2. "Industry speculation" (read: not fan site posters) suggests Sydney will get Tippett for our pick 22 plus a player
                  3. The contract is thought to be $3.2M over 4 yrs ... $800K per yr

My 2 cents worth is that Tippett is not worth pick 22 plus a Swans premiership player on the basis that:

                  - his last 2 seasons were each under 40 goals and his best ever was 55 ... so he's not up there with the elite forwards who are kicking 60+ per season (5 did so this year while Tippett was 17th ranked ... behind Jetta)
                  - he has not won a premiership, or even been a finals match winner. Rather, he is their 2nd rated forward behind Taylor Walker
                  - he has the concussion injury risk
                  - he has played his hand by declaring he is leaving and so the Crows are forced to do a trade

My bet is we will manage to do a deal based on pick 22 plus one of our fringe players with reasonable AFL game experience that has put his hand up to be traded eg. Jesse. If pushed, we may add another much lower draft pick. The only reason I can see us including a premiership player in the trade is if one of them has requested to be traded. In this case, we may get away offering that player plus a trade pick lower than #22. I'd imagine this scenario will have at least one extra club involved and The Crows net return would then be a Swans premiership player plus a 2nd round draft pick higher than our current one.

How true liz. In any case the "2nd round pick" trade deal may not be in the contract at all. Kurt;s manager was asked by SEN whether it was a clause in a contract, his response was that it was an "understanding" . . . which may or may not be worth the paper it wasn't written on 3 years ago.

The other factor is that the Swans have built up a reputation as "fair traders" in the AFL meat market, they don't engage in the zero-sum (we win-you lose) negotiations that many clubs aim for (and which explains the flurry of last minute trades and the number of deals that don't get completed),

So I reckon the Swans will get the deal done, but that Adelaide will not be forced to "Eat Crow"

                        Tippett?

Anyone not thinking Tippetts a gun please get a copy of the PF against the Hawks and then imagine he comes to a club where he's settled and happy.

Like most on here I have no idea on the complexities of building a side to compete at the highest level but the Swans have clearly shown they do so I'll be backing any decision they make. Having said that my personal opinion is that AJ and Parks will not be going anywhere. Grundy and White and a 2nd Rounder is my uneducated guess as a trade scenario.

lads without doubt Swans would have been asked (by Kurts management) what are u willing to do to make it happen........

Kurts management would have a plan B and C no doubt

Adelaide are not in a strong position at all and the fact is we need another player to replace Adam Goodes asap.......Goodes really really struggled with injury and form in 2012 and we still won the GF but our draw will be tougher in 2013, our draft is sub standard and the opposition will be after us each week.

we have some significantly well paid older players that are being replaced by end of 2013 and beyond. These are big time, high salary players....... and I will hazard my guess at the current squad talent that might be able to adopt the role left vacant

I have also popped down the (2013) age of the players close to retirement:

                            Goodes (33)- Tippett
                            ROK (32) - Parker
                            Bolton (33) - McGlynn?
                            Mattner (31) - Lockyear
Shaw (32) - Armstong? or we will need to trade is my guess as Lou is not nearly as fast as Shaw in counter attack. It is possible Lambie or cunningham or Gordnon could play that role though is developed the next couple of seasons

                            next few years?

                            LRT (30) - Walsh
Ted (30) - trade will be needed I suspect unless AJ can build up over the next few seasons which is very possible
                            Mal (29) - Lambie?

then we need others to step up as well for players that are in the 22 but will change roles as per above ie McGlynns role will be replaced by Morton or Rohan

                            McGlynn - Morton
                            Parker - Mitchell

so a 2014 team could look like: no Goodes, Bolton, ROK, Mattner, Shaw
