I completely agree with you Roy, I was being a bit facetious with my other comment!Comment

Malceski, LRT, Bird, Morton seem to have become untouchable since the flag. To be honest, they are fighting for spots in the top 22 with fellow fringe reservists in 2013, sames as they were in 2012.
As we learnt post 2006, playing players on grand-final credits doesnt work.Comment

LRT and Bird are some way off fringe reservists.
Malceski stepped up further this year and will continue to be picked if he shows that level.
Morton has well and truly earned his spot, not only for his goal kicking but for his defensive work and the pressure he can put on for others' benefit, as in his classy work to create Kieren's goal in the GF.He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. No - LRT, Bird, Mattner, Parker, Morton....no chance.
Rohan for one is highly unlikely to play seniors for at least the first half of next year, if at all next year, I'm sure they will be conservative with him.
Mitchell has shown little so far, he needs to stay injury free and play plenty of quality reserves games before even being considered.
Armstrong is at the back of the queue for HB flankers. Needs to improve defensively, and spend some time in the gym.
Grundy will need to hold out LRT to keep his spot.
My team:
FB : Mattner Richards Smith
HB : Shaw LRT Johnson
C : Jetta Okeefe Hannebery
HF : McVeigh Reid Goodes
F : McGlynn Tippett Bolton
FOL : Mumford Kennedy Jack
INT : Malceski Pyke Parker Bird
EMG : Grundy Morton ArmstrongWhenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

Queries at the moment re 2013 team are around Jude and Tippett. If Jude retires and we fail to get KT over the line there would just be a straight swap of McGlynn for Bolton. However, if Jude plays on and we get KT, we have our premiership team plus 2, McG. and KT. Leaving injuries aside, there would be 24 players to juggle each week. Who to leave out would probably depend on the make up of the opposition. It should make for lively selection table deliberations.
Then spare a thought for the fringe players.
Cutting the 24 to 22 for round 1, if all 24 were fit, I would leave out Jude for McGlynn and a tall for Tippett, probably Pyke.Comment

Bird, on the other hand, has been a critically important role player for the team. He's the most defensive midfielder we have - arguably the only one now that Jack has moved on to other roles - and has also shut down some very dangerous opposition attacking backs and contributed on the scoreboard at the same time. Tippett or no Tippett, I can't think of anyone else in the squad who has demonstrated the ability to fulfill the same role. (Well, Smithy maybe, but that would be pointless because we have no-one else to step in and play the role Nick's been filling for the past 3 seasons.)Comment

Have I missed something with Mitchell? I know he had some injuries during the season but is there are bigger problem?Comment
