Sorry Doctor but I don't see Rhyce stepping out onto a footy field just yet do you? He might not be back for another week or two. Gaz is stepping out onto a footy field this weekend and as soon as he has played the next few games he will be ahead of Shawie who will need to play Twos and only a half at most. Shawie has not played since round 2 and it is now round 16 he will have not played for 14 weeks. He has spent less time training this year than Rooster as he has onlt just got back to full session work.

I'm afraid the physio doesn't agree with you otherwise we would put him in mothballs until next year, no reserves just in case he gets injured. What a load of cods-wallop. If he is fit enough to play Twos and by the third game be playing a full game then he will be ready two weeks later to play seniors. I realise his injury was severe but he has done all the rehab and fitness to get back so stop the negativity, I'm sure the young fella would not want to hear it. Rhyce says Rooster is both physically (confirmed by Matt Cameron) and mentally ready. I have seen a player come back from this type of injury before and do it quite successfully and only have about 3-5 reserves games before playing seniors. Gaz is not the first.

No odds yet. Not any I could find. I was just curious. I'm in the won't play seniors this year camp anyway!

I doubt they'll have any till the Finals start at least.
Maybe not even till after the Prelims.

So Freo played a non-ready Barlow?? And our Medico's and coaches have always played a straight hand on injury returns?...

Lets face it, every injury and body is different. We all hope he comes out the best. You seem to be ever the optimist.

I'd like to think they are selling us some candy, and Gaz will just play out reserves, build confidence and have no pressure for the back end of the season.

Either way i put my faith in the medico team, and what they choose to be best for the players.

I don't even expect Gaz to play every reserves game from here to the end of the year - players coming back from this sort of injury can have pain and complications that require careful workload management, and I think our staff would be looking at 2014 for him. I think that's the most realistic option and would probably also be best for Gaz's long-term health and wellbeing.

If you are putting your faith in the Medical team then you would have to say he is a chance because they are. He has been not only passed fit but he is training and about to play Twos. Physio Matt Cameron says he is in pretty good nick. Rhyce Shawe says he has not lost any of his pace or skill and I trust Rhyce on that as he funnily enough has a very good footy brain. The word is he is training the house down.

Be surprised and be confident not negative please.

It is a possibility that they did play Barlow too early. Eade played O'Loughlan injured for two seasons. Sometimes there is a player who is seen as indispensable and the footy department overrule the docs. On the other hand he might just be susceptible to injury of the knees, a weak spot so to speak or it might have just been bad luck in the impact. We have been playing Goodsie with a knee injury for two seasons and look where it got us he is now sidelined for 6 weeks at least. They say it is the other knee but that can happen because you are relying heavily on the good leg because the other is not right and the stress mounts.

O'Loughlin played injured for most of his senior career, according to his autobiography

Where we got by playing Goodes injured was a premiership, I reckon he, me and maybe you would take that.

I doubt that anyone at the club has told Rohan he won't play senior AFL in 2014, surely he would have been clinging to that thought for a few hundred rehab sessions. Sub by round 20 is my tip.
Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way you'll be a mile away and he'll be shoeless.

It's not often you get a shot at winning back to back premierships. You do whatever it takes. If it looks like we're going to finish top 4, we should put the best players on the field. Even with a conservative approach, there is time enough for Rohan to get back. Not guaranteed, but it is possible. I'm with undy's prediction.

Jarred was just on sen this morning. Rohan came up in the conversation and he was certainly thinking Gary may play a role in the finals campaign. He did specifically mention a potential sub role. He also mentioned that Gary has looked great at training for the past few weeks and would beat both jetta and Brandon jack for speed. Would love to see the rooster back out there!

I guess the most important piece of the puzzle will be where his head is at once he gets into a real game.
