He looked absolutely spent on a few occasions after going on one of those blistering runs. A lot will also depend on how he pulls up tomorrow

Made it just in time to see the last 20 min of the game. Match was over, (on the scoreboard) however the few touches that Gary had at pace were exciting. While his touch is not there yet, I was happy that he was out there and giving it a go.

Wouldn't it be nice to have Jetta and Gary back for the finals...

Fantastic reception for Rohan when he came on. It will be a long road back to the seniors as he builds up his match fitness, but it was a feel good story to come out of the reserves loss today.

I think he's probably a couple of weeks away from playing out a full Ressies game so the Snrs is a bit of a way off yet. He looked pretty exhausted and his playing time was quite closely managed even in just one half.

But he still has it that's for sure, and he'll make a real impact whenever it is that he rejoins the big boys...

Once he ran around the wing, far too far without bouncing and rightly got pulled up by the umpire. Did he or anyone watching care? Not in the slightest - it was just great to see how quickly he can cover the ground.
I thought getting pinged for running too far was a wonderfully retro touch, Mrs RnR and I turned to each other and laughed,. He got caught twice doing exactly the same thing during the very first ressie game we ever saw him play back when he was a first year player.
It made us feel that he was still the same Gary, despite the horrible injury, and that it'd all work out for him.

                    Be a handy Fwd pocket!!

Sydney Swans AFL speedster Gary Rohan harbours hopes of playing senior football again this season after an encouraging return form a lengthy layoff, but coach John Longmire is taking a softly-softly approach.

In his first game in almost 15 months after suffering a broken leg, Rohan played around two thirds of the second half for the Swans reserves at the SCG on Sunday.

Playing mainly up forward, Rohan kicked 2.1 and logged nine kicks and a handball and three marks.

It's fair to say he has enough time to build a tank capable of giving us some x factor as the sub come finals time, but the big danger is overdoing it and developing soreness in the leg. Voss, Barlow and the many others who have gone thru the same thing before, almost to a man had that complication.

It will be a bonus if he remains pain free and gives us that option, but I trust that the club will not let him risk his long term future to achieve that short term goal.

That was fun. It was also a relief. He has belief in his legs, I have belief in his legs, they carried him too far and it didn't matter. He is no ressie, he is a senior in waiting.

This is going to be like keeping a racehorse waiting for the right moment. You just have to remember that the conditioning and timing is as important as the skill.

                        But it was good fun.

This is where the sub rule comes in handy - Voss and Barlow didn't have the option of being eased back in to senior footy in the same way Rohan will.

The only problem there is if you need to activate your sub early - he needs to be ready to run out a seniors match even if he's named sub. He would be a great sub too - however things pan out for Gazza that'll probably be how his first game or two will pan out, be it in 2013 or 14....

Good point, Jono - hadn't thought about that scenario. I don't really expect to see him back this year, but next year, he could be anything.
