    Swans chat 2013 Injury Thread

Listing players roughly in order of likely return.

Goodes (knee) ? says he?ll be ready by Round 1
McGlynn (calf) ? did his calf late last year just as he was recovering from hamstring.
Mattner (hip) - he said on Sunday he's hopeful of making it back for the start of the season.
Smith (cartilage) - a little bit behind Mattner
    Mitchell (tendonitis) - ???
Rohan (broken leg) ? began running on the track in the New Year

I noticed after the last major reshuffle of the club's website that they now don't have the standard old style "injury list" and instead trying to browse to the "injury list" option just seems to filter on injury tagged news- none of which is just an injury list, and the most recent update along the lines of giving general injury news is from January 9. I hope that changes for the regular season.

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I assume it's an off-season thing. If clubs do that in the real season their websites will be destroyed by a million fantasy football fans.

        From the club website:
GARY Rohan may not return to football in 2013 as the young Sydney Swan continues his rehabilitation from a broken leg.

          Official injury update

We'll be close full strength by the start of the season on March 30. Goodes, Smith and Mattner likely to be ready.

Shaw - injured his calf during training. Test at the end of the week.
Mumford - ankle injury. Likely to return in final weeks of pre-season.

          The Mitchell situation:

?He?s just about to start training with the team,? Cameron said.

?Unfortunately he has had a bit of a bad run. He had some problems with his knee last year and then he finished the year a bit early with a foot problem and then developed another problem on his other knee in his pre-season period so we had to back off a little.

?He?s certainly very fit at the moment and he is team training this week and we?ll see how he goes over the next few weeks as to when he?s ready to play.?
Gaz is a long way off.

Gaz was always going to be a long term proposition. There is good news for almost everyone else though. Smithy, Mitchell, Mattner and Mumford all training with the main group this week and all will be ready by the start of season. We need to play Pykie this week to give the young bloke, Naismith a role model to look up to and to advise him. The injury update is good news and I hope it continues that way as we are just a bit behind the other clubs in fitness this year.

Yep, I'm assuming (and hoping) that's the case.

I guess I should disperse the pile of salt I accumulated grain by grain last year whilst reading the injury report. I need to make room for this years reading...

I'm guessing because Rohan is still a long-term injury someone will probably be promoted in his place? Glad to see the Swans are being smart about his rehab and not rushing him back.

I'm putting my money on Rampe being upgraded.

I doubt they'll bother doing anything at the moment, it's not like Rampe is needed for Rd 1 at this stage.

Better to leave the options open.

The Swans' random injury excuse generator is stuck on calves and backs.

For the Suns game, LRT faces a test on his calf, Walsh out with a back injury. Malceski and Morton may also return, Malceski recovering from a calf injury and Morton from a back injury two weeks ago.

Lewis Roberts-Thomson could miss this weekend's clash against Gold Coast after suffering a calf injury in last week's loss to St Kilda

Looking forward to seeing Mitch back. I reckon he could have a big year this year.

Me too Aardy, I really think he could be something special if he keeps the attitude from late last season.
