Amazing! Watching Matt Cameron's deadpan 'he's got two broken arms and a sprained ankle but he's up and running' is usually Tuesday's highlight for me. Didn't think he was capable of making jokes!
And I for one think Tanya Paolucci's interviewing has improved immensely this year. She is now very confident and interesting to listen to.
Yeah, she has a nice style. Some of James Dampney's post-match interviews make me cringe.
Anyway, in the race to the finals Jetta and Reid are now ahead of Goodes and LRT. Jetta will be training with the Ressies this Sat, Reid might be there too. Jetta to train this weekend - SYDNEYSWANS.com.au
The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible news
Tony Shaw (Rhyce's uncle) just said on Melb radio (3AW) that if the doctor clears Rhyce's knee for LARS that is the path he will take. The operation is likely for Weds or Thurs. To quote Tony Shaw "He is 31yo so it makes sense. He had dinner with Nick Malceski last night and Nick told him he was back training in 10 weeks. What a lot of people don't know about Rhyce is that he had glandular fever just prior to getting drafted and he also had a knee reconstruction several years ago. He's had his challenges along the way".
At the beginning of the season we had 9 realistic key position options (I have perhaps generously included Walsh and White in this list). 66% of them had their seasons demolished. AJ, Goodes, Grundy, LRT, Reid, Richards, Tippett, Walsh, White.
At the beginning of the season we had 9 genuinely quick players that could be expected to play seniors (I have included Towers despite him not coming up as expected). 50% of them had their seasons demolished.
Cunningham, Goodes, Jack, Jetta, McVeigh, Rohan, Shaw, Towers,
At the beginning of the year we had a midfield renowned for their toughness, rather than speed. I counted 8 such players that I expected to be ?in the mix? this season and 0% of them have had and significant disturbance to their season.
Bird, Bolton, Hannebury, Kennedy, Lamb, Mitchell, O?Keefe, Parker,
For the sake of completeness, lets lump the rest of the players (9) in a third group. 33% season demolition here.
The lack of speed was a worry for some time (we drafted for it again this year), but I certinly never expected us to run short of KPP's. Such a distribution of injuries is statistically quite perverse and I believe it has cruelled our chances of going back to back.

And Hanners could do with a good rest up for a few weeks I reckon. He appears to be a bit more battered each week.
Wonder if he'll get that this week. Was a key player in the finals last season. Need him at the top of his game.
LRT & Jetts started training last Saturday, when the seniors were in Geelong, with the reserves. Matt Cameron says that Reid is gone for the season. Hannas has got soreness and won't play the Hawks this week. Rhyce has gone for LARS and will join AJ in the LARS rehab group after his op. Goodsie pulled up sore from running so he has stopped running but will resume later in the week. By the sounds of that he will be very lucky to make another appearance this year. So, LRT & Jetts look like the only ones to get back. Jetts is having a fitness test this week so I hope he can come back. Even if he has a run in the Twos this week it would be good, the NEAFL require a player to play 3 games to be eligible for the finals. but the Swans can apply to the AFL for an exception under these rules:
Exert from the NEAFL Rules:
8.1 Finals Eligibility
(a) a player must play a minimum of three (3) Competition home and away Matches with the Club
to qualify for the finals unless otherwise approved by the AFL.
(b) Any Club that allows a player to play in a final contrary to these Rules may be deemed by the
AFL to have forfeited the Match. If the Club wishes to challenge the forfeiture it must apply to
the AFL in writing by no later than the Monday 5pm prior to the weekend?s final Match, so that
the matter may be determined by the AFL.
8.2 Exceptional Circumstances
On application by a player?s Club, the AFL may, in its sole discretion, vary the number of qualifying
Matches required where a player misses a significant number of Matches due to serious injury or under
other exceptional circumstances.
I think it would do us more good if Jetts and LRT played against Hawthorn, under instructions not to bust a gut (or anything else). Ressies would be a useful hitout in any other circumstances but from Ressies to senior finals is a jump too big.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Alex Johnson Knee Season
Harrison Marsh Hamstring Season
Ben McGlynn Calf Test
Tom Mitchell Ankle Season
Ryan O'Keefe Ankle Test
Sam Reid Quad Season
Lewis Roberts-Thomson Knee Available
Gary Rohan Leg soreness Test
Rhyce Shaw Knee Season
Kurt Tippett Knee In doubt
Tommy Walsh Hamstring Season
The Doc says: The Swans have the biggest concerns after they picked up some new injuries from Saturday night. Tippett is the disappointing one because they were confident after the match he was going to recover from the strain of the ligaments in his fibular joint on the lateral side of his knee. McVeigh had a similar injury the week before and they got him up pretty well but the Swans have conceded Tippett won't be risked this week. He was a little bit sore before the match and suffered an aggravation early in the game, which is the difference. He's a big loss and based on normal recovery I'd expect him to be available should the Swans go through. Mitchell has required ankle reconstruction surgery following the nasty injury from the weekend and won't be available. McGlynn, who developed calf soreness after the qualifying final and missed the semi-final, would only be a 50-50 chance and would need to impress at training this week. O'Keefe had a minor ankle scare in the last minute of the game but pulled up well the day after and will be available to play. Roberts-Thomson hasn't played seniors since he needed an arthroscope for patella and cartilage problems after round three. He returned to the NEAFL last week but will be well below senior match conditioning. Jetta has benefited from playing the extra time and his shin soreness was less this week than it was after the previous week's game.
Fremantle
Player Injury Estimated Return
Kepler Bradley Knee Season
Jonathon Griffin Knee Season
Garrick Ibbotson Achilles Test
Michael Johnson Calf Test
Sam Menegola Knee Season
Viv Michie Knee Season
Anthony Morabito Knee Season
Clancee Pearce Achilles Season
Hayden Schloithe Ankle Season
Tanner Smith Shoulder Season
Nick Suban Ankle Test
The Doc says: With the advantage of the week off, even though Suban was subbed out of the qualifying final, it's unlikely he'll be limited and should be able to train freely this week. Johnson has missed since round 22 but is now in week four so I'd expect that his calf should be ready - he'll have to get through a training session to convince them but he should come in. Ibbotson remains an outside chance ? he's had the long-term Achilles issue and I wouldn't expect they'd put him in for a prelim.
