Well, the Rising Sun was full of happy customers tonight again.
What a performance. Once again, no passengers, indeed they all took a turn at driving the engine and ran right over the Crows. Not worried about the last quarter: we've had enough injuries thank you.
What a midfield. I can't remember when I last saw such a dominant display against a decent quality team like that. The tackling was relentless, good players were forced into errors (van Berlo tried hard, as did Dangerfield and others) but they were just overwhelmed by the sheer speed and brutally efficient harrassing and disposal. Hanners was awesome, Jack never stopped, Bird blitzed 'em, Kennedy killed them, Parker parcelled 'em up, and so on. And as for Mitchell!
Sanderson at one point threw away his marker to whoever felt like catching it.
And again what a back six. The veterans in Ted, Reg, Smithy and Nic Mal had great games, the no-longer-new boy Rampe has stepped into Matty's shoes in one of those smooth transitions we seem to manage, Dre had a night out. But the greatest of all was McVeigh again, every centimetre a captain's guiding hand with virtually impeccable disposal time and again, directing the play like a stage production, a superb game.
And what a bunch of forwards! Jesse did what I have longed to see him do and I happily join the queue for my slice of humble pie. Morton's goals were pure relief and excitement, none more so than that balletic effort out of midair. Benny was his usual tough, energetic self, Jude placed himself nicely and finished well, O'Keeefe between forward and mid was hugely influential in establishing our ascendancy.
And Goodes does what he does best whether it was on the ball, forward kicking or setting up goals, down the back taking marks; he was everywhere. The ruckmen were a constant threat, and while Mikepyke had a quiet game by his standards, it was partly because he was well held in a literal sense, and it cost Adelaide to tag him.
And Brandon made an impact in the first touch of the ball at this level.
Just a wonderful game to watch, and I think the Adelaide monkey is off our back for some time to come, in fact it has probably now the other way round. What a problem for the poor selectors, worse with the players Auntie.Gerald listed; and you can add Tippett.

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

It's amazing what confidence (and maybe desperation) can do for fringe players. We've always known what the likes of Everitt and White can do in patches, but their second efforts and just general work rate haven't always been the best. But today, when they made mistakes, they buttered up, went back in and did what they could to win the ball back, generally with success.
Seeing Jesse pump those legs just hard enough to keep in front for that wonderful 3rd quarter goal was fantastic.

My favourite moment was not from a fringe player or newbie but from one of our best. Malceski's effort to run 20m or so to spoil what looked like an easy Crows mark, when we already had the game well and truly won, epitomised what the Swans were about tonight. And then to be the first back to his feet, collect the ball, steady and kick it onto the chest of a team mate - toe tingling.

Only thing that would have made it better for me was if Tippett was on the field as well to really rub it in their face!

What I think is ultimate testament to Mike Pyke's development is that when he went up forward, he pretty much had Ben Rutten for company all night. If you had of told me a few years ago that Rutten would be keeping Pyke company in the forward line, I would have laughed you out of the room!
"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."

I think we have a new #1 fan in Jason Dunstall.. He almost runs out of breath talking about how hard we work and well coached we are.. What about the bit he highlighted showing Mummy running 150M into our forward line on a break.. I also love how when Hanners gets asked about how well he is playing he just deflects it and talks about how everyone is contributing blah blah blah.. Mitchell did the same last week.. I also loved seeing Kizza being a proud big bro with BJ and seeing a proud father Gray in the change rooms afterwards.. This club has managed to bond all of its players into such a force it must scare the ____ out of the opposition.. I am enjoying the ride....

Cyanide I think we can win the Premiership with or without Kurt Tippett. I think the players who played today showed what we can do. A lot of posters have knocked Jesse for not putting on big tackles today, I say pooh! He put on tackles sometimes he didn't make them stick but he did other things in the pack like flicking the ball out to Mitchell and that flick resulted in a goal. He protected the small men so they could get a run by putting his body into the opposition, at one stage three players.

I have been very critical of our team i the early season. Especially the Fremantle game. I thought there were players who were playing hangover footy and our backs were in upheaval due to AJ's injury. But then Rhyce went down and there was an absolute breakdown in communication and endeavour in the defence. Marty then got injured and then funnily enough the defence started to gel. Drey came in, Rampe was already playing well but the big move was to put Macca back there as General to make the defenders work together new & old. An absolute master stroke by Longmire and the coaching staff.

There is a lot of desire in this team now. Lukie Parker has played well all season and wants to be a major player come GF 2013 not a Sub. Drey wants it so much and so does Benny. All players have caught the bug it seems and we are back on track.

So Worth coming down to Adelaide for the weekend. I was the only swans voice in the entire bay !! But it was a terrific game and everyone played their part. This victory was sooooooo sweet!
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Not much else to add in Jimmy's opinion. We are an absolutely super, super, side.

No LRT, Shaw, Johnson, Rohan, Tippett, Reid, Jetta, Mattner (retired) and with blokes like White, Dre etc all playing a role and winning we are looking primed.

After such a ruthless and stylish execution of Adelaide's season, we can now look forward to hearing the usual Melbourne media hacks start bleating about the injustice of it all.

The commentary will quickly transform from "No good, over-rated and premiership hangover" to "Privileged, COLA injustice and soft draw".

But I digress. What a win. This is potentially turning into a dynastical (I know its not a real word but I like it) season. As we stand today, we have:
                                * Quality coaching - Giddy-up Horsie
                                * Outstanding leadership on he field - Macca Jack attack
                                * Champions and stalwarts at the top of their game - Carry on dear Goodes, Jude, ROK, Teddy and Joey - ye faithful servants
                                * Fresh Bloods - I am Ramped up and Bemitchelled by the Brandied Lamb
                                * Quiet achievers who are starting to make a lot of noise - Bird, Smith, Grundy, Mummy, Benny
                                * Big improvers - Satchmo, a White Knight, the Mountie and the Slagon Dreyer
                                * Spinners to come back in - Shaw, LRT, Sammy and Jetts, plus
                                * The excitement of Tippet debuting in red and white

How fortunate we are to be living in such interesting times.

OK, I'll get my hat and coat.
