Well, the Rising Sun was full of happy customers tonight again.
What a performance. Once again, no passengers, indeed they all took a turn at driving the engine and ran right over the Crows. Not worried about the last quarter: we've had enough injuries thank you.
What a midfield. I can't remember when I last saw such a dominant display against a decent quality team like that. The tackling was relentless, good players were forced into errors (van Berlo tried hard, as did Dangerfield and others) but they were just overwhelmed by the sheer speed and brutally efficient harrassing and disposal. Hanners was awesome, Jack never stopped, Bird blitzed 'em, Kennedy killed them, Parker parcelled 'em up, and so on. And as for Mitchell!
Sanderson at one point threw away his marker to whoever felt like catching it.
And again what a back six. The veterans in Ted, Reg, Smithy and Nic Mal had great games, the no-longer-new boy Rampe has stepped into Matty's shoes in one of those smooth transitions we seem to manage, Dre had a night out. But the greatest of all was McVeigh again, every centimetre a captain's guiding hand with virtually impeccable disposal time and again, directing the play like a stage production, a superb game.
And what a bunch of forwards! Jesse did what I have longed to see him do and I happily join the queue for my slice of humble pie. Morton's goals were pure relief and excitement, none more so than that balletic effort out of midair. Benny was his usual tough, energetic self, Jude placed himself nicely and finished well, O'Keeefe between forward and mid was hugely influential in establishing our ascendancy.
And Goodes does what he does best whether it was on the ball, forward kicking or setting up goals, down the back taking marks; he was everywhere. The ruckmen were a constant threat, and while Mikepyke had a quiet game by his standards, it was partly because he was well held in a literal sense, and it cost Adelaide to tag him.
And Brandon made an impact in the first touch of the ball at this level.
Just a wonderful game to watch, and I think the Adelaide monkey is off our back for some time to come, in fact it has probably now the other way round. What a problem for the poor selectors, worse with the players Auntie.Gerald listed; and you can add Tippett.
