Probably the idiot that wanted to keep him away from Carlton - can't see why anybody is surprised that players or staff would want to follow him as he is a great coach and motivator - he was fantastic for our club and slagging him off is like booing a player who leaves the club - not very classy at all
Roos officially announced as Melbourne Demons

No sorry Liz I respectfully disagree. Roos is doing the right thing by his new employer and also the right thing by Perris. From my understanding, he is simply forcing us to put Lloyd onto the senior list and taking away our ability to rookie him. If I were Lloyds mum, I'd want that for my child. Anyway, how do we know that young Lloyd didn't say to Roosy that he'd like to keep playing under him - there are always two sides to every story.Comment

Let's just get one thing strate here about Academy. I didn't financially contribute to the Academy to have a NSW kid playing in Melbourne. If the Academy is about preparing NSW kids to play AFL than AFL should pay for it. When I got letters from Paul Roos to help financially the Academy to train those kids I was expecting them to play for Sydney Swans not to have them poached for another club.Comment

I don't know the ins and outs on how the academy operates, but you can't blame Paul Roos for using his contacts, expertise and experience to succeed in his new roll.
The Swans made the decision to marginalise Roos, by cutting his salary by 55%. The Swans Board are full of savy business operatives who know that people use their contacts, experience and expertise when they leave a firm!
This is simply business!Comment

There is also that little thing called 'ethics'. When I hire someone from a competitor, I make it a point of not asking questions that I would not want to answer myself. Skills and knowledge is one thing...inside information is another.
Hopefully the allegation (if that is the right word) is not true, but if it is, my estimation of Roos has dropped considerably. The fact is that his ethics are on show for all the footy world to see. Let's wait and watch and see.He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.Comment

I appreciate the idea of looking out for his new employer, and I appreciate the idea of looking after Lloyd's best interests; but this is not even remotely a normal workplace situation. The Academy has from my understanding been exceptionally expensive to run, and Paul has been a part of that by getting paid $300k p.a. to be the head coach for the past 3 and a bit years- so essentially has received around $1 million dollars to be a junior football coach (admittedly an elite one); for perspective on money in the football world, if the VFL is the secondary league below the AFL that's the entire salary cap of a standalone club, and probably twice as much as any of their head coaches earn.
Lloyd was the very first kid signed up to the Academy, and has turned into exactly the sort of prospect the Swans had hoped it would produce. Paul should know better than to even entertain the thought.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

What is to stop other coaches from other opposition teams from poaching players from the Swans academy? I'm sure the Swans scouts have a look at players from other teams academy's.
If Perris is a super young player why should he be a rookie on a lower salary with less job security, just because it suits the Swans and their salary cap.
Good on Lloyd, if he is that good, get him on the senior list, otherwise another club will!Comment

Not even Mick Malthouse has tried to lure the top Collingwood Academy player to Carlton. Richard Collis has every right to be angry. There will need to be a special clause for the contract of the next Swans' Academy Director! Who would have thought it would have been needed for Paul Roos.Comment

I guess there's some kind of etiquette where another club can express official interest in an Academy player in case the club decides not to draft him. Will be fascinated to hear Roos' explanation - it's rare for Colless to sound off without a reason.
When stories like this break I'm glad we're not Melbourne-based. The footy media would go nuts. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment
